Soap stars Amy Walsh and Toby Alexander-Smith are used to their on screen lives hitting headline but thanks to their latest news, the couple are in the spotlight.

They generally keep their relationship private – rarely attending events together or posting snaps on social media. But the couple have now taken part in their first ever joint photoshoot to exclusively announce their pregnancy.

“We’re so excited to become parents,” says Emmerdale actress Amy, who plays Tracy Metcalfe, before Toby – who plays EastEnders villain Gray Atkins, that the news feels "magical".

The pair, who met in the audience of Strictly Come Dancing in 2019, have been on fast forward in their relationship and made the decision to move in together after just four months because of lockdown.

Amy continues: "It feels as though the way everything happened was meant to be. I thought I might struggle with fertility, so for pregnancy to happen quite easily and when I wanted – I was gobsmacked. We feel incredibly lucky."

Amy, 34, is the sister of Girls Aloud star Kimberley and reveals that after being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovaries when she was 20 years old, she feared she may struggle to conceive.

"I always thought falling pregnant was going to be a battle," Amy confides. "Toby knew how worried I was, especially as I’m a bit older. I did wonder if it would ever happen for me, so it feels like a blessing."

The pair go on to add that though they were trying to get pregnant, they assumed it would be a lengthy process because of Amy's health issues. So they were delighted – but shocked! – when they found out they were expecting just two months later.

Toby says: "There’s never a perfect time. You could always think, 'We could do with a bigger house or investing more time in our careers,' but if you’ve met the right person then that’s it."

Amy also sweetly reveals that she always hoped she would one day have a baby of her own after feeling very broody around her sisters and friend's children.

"It’s always something I hoped and prayed would happen at some point," she says. "I’ve enjoyed being an auntie, but after meeting Toby I felt like I really wanted a child myself."
