'Avatar the Last Airbender': Aang Could Be Coming to 'Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl' — and Korra Too
Nickelodeon is getting ready to release some of its most beloved IPs into the fighting game ring — Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl is making this a reality. In fact, even Avatar: The Last Airbender may be seeing some love. Fans think they’ve spotted Aang and Korra on the cover art. Plus, there are plenty more characters to choose from, including some surprisingly deep cuts when it comes to older cartoons.
‘Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl’ could feature Aang and Korra
As of now, there aren’t too many details available about Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, but the hype is real. IGN shared the official announcement trailer on YouTube on July 13, which promises the game sometime in autumn of 2021.
While fans won’t have to wait too long for the Super Smash Bros. style game to premiere, GameMill Entertainment, Fair Play Labs, and Ludosity are keeping plenty of secrets. As it stands now, they’ve announced a limited roster, but fans have noticed silhouettes of certain characters featured on the game’s box art.
Two silhouettes on the leftmost side of the art have fans convinced they’re Korra and Aang from The Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender respectively. Korra seems fairly easy to make out — her hair loopies and flexed arm seem to give it away.
Aang is a little less clear, if it is Aang at all — but one stage does feature what appears to be a Ba Sing Se stage, with an air nomad flier propped up against the wall. Some have taken this as a sign that Aang will be a playable character.
Other surprising names made it to ‘Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl’ roster
As of now, a limited Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl roster has been announced, but the game trailer promises more secrets coming. Perhaps Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Aang is one of these secrets.
Currently, the confirmed roster list includes:
- Sandy Cheeks – Spongebob Squarepants
- Patrick Star – Spongebob Squarepants
- Spongebob Squarepants – Spongebob Squarepants
- Danny Phantom – Danny Phantom
- Lincoln Loud – The Loud House
- Lucy Loud – The Loud House
- Michelangelo – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Leonardo – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Powdered Toast Man – Ren & Stimpy
- Oblina – Aaahh!!! Real Monsters
- Nigel Thornberry – The Wild Thornberries
- Reptar – Rugrats
- Helga – Hey Arnold!
- Zim – Invader Zim
Fans believe they’ve also spotted CatDog from the eponymous cartoon, as well as Ren & Stimpy themselves on the cover art. As of now, there will be at least 20 levels taken from Nickelodeon shows. Some of the known levels include Jellyfish Fields from Spongebob Squarepants and the Technodrome from TMNT, per IGN.
Some of these, like Aaahh!!! Real Monsters and Ren & Stimpy are fairly deep cuts, given the age of the cartoons. It’s exciting to see some of these fan-favorites make their appearance in the game.
The game will feature online multiplayer, rollback netcode
IGN has also confirmed that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will feature up to four-player local and online multiplayer. There will also be progression for the characters, which will manifest in the form of unlocking moves as one levels up.
What’s more, the game has been confirmed on the Ludosity Discord server as having rollback netcode for “supported platforms.” This is a big announcement, as rollback netcode is a perk that many modern fighting games still lack.
Essentially, rollback netcode attempts to predict upcoming frame inputs, which are “rolled back” if they don’t occur as expected.
