On Thursday’s episode of Lorraine, host Christine Lampard was filling in for the usual presenter as she spoke to royal correspondent Katie Nicholl about her new book. During the conversation, talk turned to the highly anticipated new series of The Crown.

Since 2016, viewers have watched a dramatised version of events in the Royal Family’s life in the Netflix show The Crown.
From the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II to the first meeting of Charles and Diana, fans have been given a glimpse at the life behind the doors of Buckingham Palace.
Series four of the show predominantly focused on the newly appointed King Charles III and his relationship with the late Princess Diana with it ending just after their marriage in 1981.
However, throughout the 10-part series people were also introduced to the now Queen Consort, Camilla, who struck up a close friendship with Charles.

Earlier this month The Crown released a teaser trailer for season five which is set to be focused around the breakdown of Princess Diana and King Charles’ marriage.

Ahead of its November release, ITV host Christine spoke about how the monarch could be feeling with that part of his life being brought to the forefront once again.

Christine said: “That’s entering into that phase of King Charles’ life where- it’s a period he doesn’t want to reflect on, but we’re all going to be talking about it.”

Katie replied: “Well we’ll all be watching and all be talking about it!

“Full credit to these two, especially the Duchess who’s got a wonderful sense of humour and they did watch the last series.

“I think the King stopped watching it at a point but the Duchess watched it and took it, I think as we all ought to, with a pinch of salt.

“Whether they’ll be watching the latest series, I suspect not.”

In a teaser trailer for series five, people were shown an intense 37-second clip of Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana and Dominic West as King Charles.

With a close-up of her infamous engagement ring, people can hear a voice-over reading the official statement from Buckingham Palace on the royal split.

It says: “It is with regret that the Prince and Princess of Wales are separating.”

Within the clip, multiple different news anchors could be heard with one bulletin stating the Princess of Wales has upstaged her husband.

There was also another reference to Camilla and the affair that unfolded between her and Charles as she’s referred to by a news reader as a long-time female friend.

Throughout the trailer, there are multiple different close-up shots of Diana and Charles being shown as they prepare for a televised interview.

As various reports on the split get louder to the point where it’s no longer audible, it’s mirroring the duo constantly being in the media.

After a while, a final voice can be heard saying: “This has become, an all-out war.”

The Crown returns to Netflix on November 9.
