Celebrity MasterChef saw the contestants their teamwork tested in the first semi-final on Wednesday night. The stars of the BBC cooking show were split into teams and given the task of creating two dishes in a relay style. After completing the relay challenge the contestants then had to complete a final task. However, some viewers weren’t happy with the challenge and accused the judges of making it “too easy” for the celebrity contestants.

Before revealing what the final task of the episode would be, Gregg invited a guest chef onto the show.

Gregg told the celebrity contestants: “We have got a special guest. A chef who has dedicated his life to the perfection of a very British institution – the sandwich.”

The judge then introduced them to a man he dubbed “the sandwich king”, chef Max Halley.

Sandwich enthusiast, Max, did a cooking demonstration for the contestants and informed them of what he believed made a great sarnie.

The chef explained: “I have my own sandwich mantra. Every sandwich we have ever served adheres to these six rules: hot, cold, sweet, sour, crunchy, and soft.”

“For me, it’s the secret of deliciousness,” he revealed.

Gregg then went on to reveal the final challenge: “We now want you to create your own super sandwich.”

“We really hope you listened to Max and his six points of deliciousness,” John remarked.

However, viewers quickly took to Twitter to blast John and Gregg, accusing them of setting a challenge that was “too easy”.

One viewer complained: “One hour to make a sandwich. #masterchefuk #CelebrityMasterChef.”

A second agreed: “I don’t get how this is really classed as cooking. When I trained to be a chef we didn’t learn how to make a sandwich it seems a bit too easy xx.”

“Cannot believe they’re about to eliminate someone over a sandwich #CelebrityMasterChef #MasterChefUK,” a third added.

Meanwhile, others disagreed and instead enjoyed seeing the celebrities come up with quirky sandwiches.

One viewer wrote: “I think the sandwich challenge is the best I’ve ever seen. I’m actually inspired to try something like this. #MasterchefUK #CelebrityMasterchef.”

Several of the contestants also seemed keen on the unusual challenge.

Happy Monday’s star Bez remarked: “I’m a northerner. We love our butties.

“We love our butties, you’re right about that,” Melanie Sykes agreed.

“Yeah so if you can’t make a good butty you’re living in the wrong town,” Bez said.

By the end of the episode, it was Su Pollard who failed to impress the judges with her cooking skills and was sadly knocked out of the competition.

Celebrity MasterChef continues Thursday at 8 pm on BBC One.
