Corrie star Will Mellor fears he’ll be abused in street as character is so evil
New Coronation Street star Will Mellor is worried he’ll get abuse in the street from telly fans because his character is going to be such a bad boy.
The actor, 44, will play evil drug lord called Harvey next month.
He said he is proud to be joining the show – but admitted he has not tuned in for years.
And Will is bracing himself to be abused by fans of the show because his character is so evil.
His arrival comes as Leanne Battersby, played by Jane Danson, finds herself forced into a dangerous world of drugs in Weatherfield.
The actor, from Stockport, Greater Mancs, said: “The character is a proper bad lad, a Salford lad, he’s a bit of a drug baron and he gets young lads who haven’t got criminal records involved selling drugs for him.
“So he’s a horrible person, good to play.
“I’m just glad that people have seen me play other things, because if this was the first thing they’d seen me do they would believe it, they would hate me, people would hurl abuse in the street.

“Some people really believe it so I’m glad that hopefully people have seen me in other things and understand that it’s not real, because the character in Coronation Street is really horrible.”
The actor was in Hollyoaks between 1995 and 2004 and also starred in Two Pint of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Broadchurch, No Offence and Line of Duty.
On playing a baddie, he added: “If you’re going to go into a show like Corrie it’s good to go in and make a splash and play a character that stands out.
“I didn’t want to go in and just be Mr Nice Guy because there’s no impact.”
Corrie continues on Friday at 7.30pm on BBC.
