Dawn French re-ignites scones debate and slams ‘idiots’ who eat them incorrectly

Dawn French has been telling the world exactly how scones are eaten – and took aim at the "idiots" who get it wrong!

The telly favourite is passionate about the very British treat and won't tolerate anyone toying with the age-old tradition.

Dawn couldn't keep calm when the subject of those who put cream on first came up.

She says she has no respect for anyone capable of such a food crime – and grumbled that they are wrecking it for everyone.

The 63-year-old delivered an impassioned speech on The Project and stressed "there is no other way" to eat a scone.

Dawn made a string of gestures with her hands as she outlined why she is right.

In the video, she said: "You have a scone – it can be fruit, it can be plain. You can, if you like, have butter. That's optional.

"Then, you have the jam… and I don't mind what kind of jam it is, it can be strawberry, raspberry, whatever you like.

"Then you have the cream – the cream is the crown. Cornish, clotted cream."

"You want a dollop – the jam is spread, the cream is dolloped."

But she suddenly found some fire.

"Some idiots decide they'll put the cream on first, thinking that's the dairy and the fat needs to go first. Who does that?'

"Only foolish people. And people I no longer respect!"

She later tweeted: "Feeling justifiably correct and a teeny bit smug" with a picture of a yummy scone.

Dawn has announced she will reprise her role in The Vicar of Dibley for a trio of Christmas specials.

She will return as Geraldine Granger and fans can't wait.

BBC show The Vicar of Dibley originally aired from 1994 to 1998 and the ten-minute shows will hit our screens next month.
