Disney Is Developing Another Movie Based Off of a Disney Parks Attraction!
Disney is reportedly in early stages on a film based off of the popular Disney Parks Tower of Terror ride!
The Mouse House is developing the film with Scarlett Johansson on board to produce and star, Collider reports.
Josh Cooley, Toy Story 4 director and Inside Out writer, is currently working on the script.
The Tower of Terror ride is of course based off of the television series The Twilight Zone, which ran from 1959-1964.
Here’s a ride synopsis, via DisneyWorld.com: Step uneasily inside the infamous Hollywood Tower Hotel and find a dusty lobby frozen in time. Even the subdued hotel staff seems strangely out of another era.
Suddenly a television set springs to life and Rod Serling welcomes you on a journey into the Twilight Zone. He reveals that on a gloomy Halloween night in 1939, some hotel patrons were riding the elevator when a violent storm struck the building… and they were never seen again. The hotel closed down and has stood empty ever since.
On the ride, guests go into an elevator-style lift, sit down, strap in and “you’re suddenly propelled up and down the abandoned shaft—unexpectedly dropping and rising—as you hear the sound of cables snapping and metal clanging overhead.”
Tower of Terror is currently running at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios, Disneyland Paris’ Walt Disney Studios Park and a version of it at Tokyo’s DisneySea. It was in operations at Disney California Adventure park in Anaheim, but it has been revamped to Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout for Avengers Campus.
If you missed it, a new Disney+ series is coming in July that will give fans a “behind the curtain” look at some of the fan-favorite rides and attractions.
