Divergent star Ashley Judd shares photos of horror scars after nearly losing leg
Ashley Judd has shared photos of her horrific scars after she 'nearly lost her leg' in the rainforest.
The actress shattered her leg in a gruesome accident in the Congo while researching the Bonobos, a unique species of ape, in February.
The 52-year-old shared her recovery photos and a clip of her doing physiotherapy to show her progress since her injury.
She penned a heartfelt update saying: "I am getting back up. I remember when I began sleeping through the night. I remember when I began to have dreams again (both kinds).
“With the kind of injury I (& many others) have, we speak of degrees. In the video, 109 degrees was an outrageous dream, & trying to reach it was agony.
“I did 60 of those heel slides a day. I sobbed through them. I made it because of the loving exhortation and validation of my many friends.
“Yesterday, I effortlessly reached the benchmark of 130 degrees. I can nearly reach my knee as you see in one picture. My feet can rest almost parallel.”
She concluded by telling her 511k followers that she would be doing back to Patagonia as soon as she is healed, which she estimates will take a year.

Ashley wrote: “Come June, I will walk with a brace and a cane. But look out, Patagonia, because when that nerve heals, you’ll be seeing me.
“My Partner gave me that book for my recent birthday. I believe. Just as that little endangered bonobo knows that she’ll be seeing me back in the Congolese rain forest soon.”
Ashley opened up about her awful accident last month, revealing it occurred when she tripped over a fallen tree and broke her leg.

She called the next 55 hours “incredibly harrowing” as it "started with five hours of lying on the forest floor" until she began the long journey towards medical help.
Ashley recalled: "With [my colleagues' leg] under my badly misshapen leg, biting my stick… howling like a wild animal.”
She was carried by six men for three hours over rough terrain before being taken by motorbike to a “hut” where she “nearly lost her leg” as someone was able to reset her bones, before flying to South Africa to an ICU.

Ashley hopes that she will be able to walk again after suffering massive soft tissue damage and her leg having had no pulse.
She said: “It’s going to take some time for that nerve to heal. And there's going to be intensive physical therapy.
"Of course, I will walk again because I'm determined and I believe in modern science and I also believe in miracles. But there's no really a time frame for [recovery]. I have a journey ahead of me."
