Emmerdale would not be the soap it is today without the Dingle family.

The famous relatives first appeared in the ITV soap back in 1994, 22 years after the series started.

Zak Dingle, played by Steve Halliwell, is the patriarch of the family and plenty of his family members still cause havoc around the village.

Cain (Jeff Hordley), Chas (Lucy Pargeter), Charity (Emma Atkins) and Marlon (Mark Charnock) continue to bring plenty of drama to the serial drama.

But with the Dingle family being one of the soap's largest and far-reaching, there are countless characters who have left the village or been killed off.

Following Danny Miller's shock exit as Aaron Dingle, Daily Star Online has decided to look back at what the stars who played departed members of the Dingle clan got up to after leaving the ITV soap.

Butch Dingle (played by Paul Loughran)

Butch Dingle is one of the most iconic members of the family, appearing for six years between 1994 and 2000, when he was killed off in the village bus crash.

He was married to cousin Mandy Dingle and timid Emily Wylie throughout his time on the soap, wedding Emily on his death bed.

The character died in 2000 after a bus he was riding on was hit by an out of control lorry, with Butch being married next to his brother Ben, who died six years earlier.

Their tombstone reads: "Dead but still Dingles."

Following his stint on Emmerdale, actor Paul Loughran went on to appear in a number of other television series.

He had a role in The Bill, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and Heartbeat among others.

Then, in 2016, he joined Coronation Street as Darryl, the father of Craig Tinker.

Darryl met Craig shortly after the lad's 18th birthday, after being in and out of prison.

Craig was left raging when he went to visit his dad for the first time and Darryl asked him to sneak drugs back in on his next trip.

The character has not been seen since September 2016.

Tricia Dingle (played by Sheree Murphy)

Tragic Tricia Dingle has one of the most memorable Emmerdale deaths ever, being killed by falling rubble during the New Year's Eve storm in 2003, though her last appearance was January 8, 2004.

She first appeared in the soap in September 1998 and went on to land a job at the Woolpack.

Tricia was a bit of a tease and had romances with a number of characters, sleeping with Terry Woods and Scott Windsor.

She eventually married Marlon Dingle after a previous marriage, though her death kickstarted his string of bad luck with women.

After Emmerdale, actress Sheree Murphy enjoyed a prolonged career in television, appearing on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! as well as hosting segments on This Morning and Loose Women.

She married Australian footballer Harry Kewell in a 2002 Las Vegas wedding, after meeting at a nightclub called Majestic in 2000.

Sheree and Harry have four children together – Taylor (born 2001), Ruby (born 2003), Matilda (born 2008) and Dolly (born 2012).

In 2014 she joined Aussie soap Neighbours as Dakota Davies, until 2018, and played Eva Strong in Hollyoaks between 2010 and 2011.

Nowadays, she presents on Hits Radio UK.

Delilah Dingle (played by Hayley Tamaddon)

Delilah appeared in just over 200 episodes between July 2005 and May 2007, when the character left the country after stealing £20,000 from Eric Pollard.

She arrived in a flashy sports car wearing a wedding dress after fleeing her wedding, staying in the village when her fiancé Jay came to try and win her back.

Despite enjoying a quiet life for a few years, she took a shine to David Metcalfe and they hatched a plan to steal money from his dad Eric.

However she managed to convince David to put the money into her account and, once it was there, she left him – and the country.

Actress Hayley Tamaddon is still around today, having competing in the fifth and ninth runs of Dancing on Ice – winning series five.

She had roles in Shameless, Waterloo Road and joined Coronation Street in 2013 as a friend of Steve McDonald, exiting in 2015.

Last year, Hayley announced that she was pregnant and gave birth to her son on October 12.

However it wasn't all happy times for the 43-year-old, as she was admitted to hospital after Corrie and Dancing on Ice got too much for her.

Then in 2018, she shared that she'd had a nervous breakdown after signing contracts to a new apartment.

Taking to Twitter, Hayley wrote: "I broke down. For four hours.

"'Oh my God, I'm having a nervous breakdown,' I thought. I cried until I felt like I was gonna pass out."

She said that she has therapy and urged her followers who were struggling to do the same, adding: "Sometimes as humans we break. And that is ok."

Hayley went on: "We need to take care of each other. We need to learn to love ourselves and be kind to ourselves and each other. And we all need to know, it's ok to not be ok."

Donna Windsor-Dingle (played by Verity Rushworth)

Another of Marlon's ill-fated wives was Donna, who had a few stints on the soap between 1993 and 1997, 1998 and 2009 and then in 2014.

She is the mother of little April Windsor, who often steals the show when she is on screen now.

Donna died in August 2014 after she fell from a multi-storey car park when she pulled Gary North over the edge to try and protect April and new boyfriend Ross Barton.

She had become a policewoman but was a bent cop, and she and Ross had burgled Gary, who then went out for revenge.

Verity Rushworth played Donna between 1998 and 2014, after taking over from Sophie Jeffery.

After leaving Soap Land, the 34-year-old turned to the stage and enjoyed roles in The Sound Of Music, Chicago and Breakfast at Tiffany's.

For almost a year, between July 2017 and June 2018, Verity played Lauren in the West End production of Kinky Boots.

She is married to Dominic Shaw and they have two children together – Amelie (born in 2016) and Ethan (born in 2019).

Tina Dingle (played by Jacqueline Pirie)

Tina, daughter of Zak and sister of Nathan, Butch, Ben, Cain, Sam and Belle, appeared between 1994 and 1996.

Her biggest storyline was in 1995, when she was supposed to marry Luke McAllister, but it was actually to get revenge for her brother Ben.

She was later kidnapped by Luke who drove around the village on a rampage, before he crashed and died – though Tina escaped.

Tina left the village for London after getting sick of being in a love triangle with Franke Tate and Steve Marchant, and hasn't returned since.

Two years later, actress Jacqueline joined Coronation Street as Linda Sykes.

She soon became romantically involved with Mike Baldwin after he split from his wife Alma – despite Mike being old enough to be Linda's dad.

They got married in 2000 but Mike discovered Linda had been having an affair with his son Mark and forced her out of Weatherfield.

Since then, Jacqueline has turned her hand to teaching, and moved to Victoria, British Columbia with her husband Simon Chadwick.

Eli Dingle (played Joseph Gilgun)

Eli is Marlon's brother, and was in Emmerdale between July 2006 and April 2010.

He turned up in the village after just being released from prison and nobody was happy to see him.

Eli left the village before he could be arrested, after getting into bother with countless people.

Since then, he's been mentioned a couple of times, including when Marlon tried and failed to get in touch with him in 2014.

Out of everyone mentioned above, actor Joseph Gilgun has arguably done the best for himself in terms of his career.

He has starred as Woody in This Is England and its spin-off series and landed the role of Rudy Wade in supernatural show Misfits.

In 2015, Joseph appeared in The Last Witch Hunter alongside Vin Diesel and Elijah Wood.

Then, in 2016, he starred alongside Bryan Cranston and Diane Kruger in The Infiltrator.

Between 2016 and 2019, he was a main character on AMC series Preacher and his since returned to UK television.

Last year, he landed the role of Vinnie on Brassic, acting next to Michelle Keegan.

Aaron Dingle (played by Danny Miller)

Danny Miller announced he has quit his role as Aaron Dingle after 13 years last month.

The actor, 30, said goodbye to his famous role ahead of his appearance on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!

It is reported that the actor hopes to welcome new career opportunities after his fiancée Steph gave birth to their first son, Albert, in October.

The Stockport-born star shared that tough soap filming schedules was one of the main reasons he wanted to leave the soap and he was keen to spend more time with family.

He revealed: "I knew my baby would only be about a month old when I went into the Castle.

"I was worried about leaving the baby with Steph on her own but she is a midwife and I know our baby will be in perfect hands.

"She has been incredibly supportive and she knows what a great opportunity this is to take part.”
