ITV soap fans were shocked last month when they saw Leanna Cavanagh (played by Mimi Slinger) killed on her 18th birthday in Emmerdale. She was murdered by villainous nurse Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) who pushed the teen off a bridge. As Leanna’s father Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) struggles to deal with his grief, could viewers soon see him turn his back on the Dales?

Last month in Emmerdale, Leanna was targeted by the village’s latest villain.

The teenager walked in on Meena rummaging through her things before the nurse accidentally admitted to killing her best friend.

As a result, a chase ensued and Meena brutally shoved the teenager over the bridge.

The cold-hearted killer checked Leanna’s pulse and announced her dead.

The village was rocked by the death of the teenager and Meena seems to have gotten away with her crime.

Leanna had planned to travel abroad for her gap year, but she never got the chance as her life was cut short.

Ever since the tragic events, Liam has been struggling to come to terms with the loss of his daughter.

He recently got married to Leyla Cavanagh (Roxy Shahidi), but instead of being loved up as a newlywed, Liam is weighed down with grief.

And in upcoming scenes on the soap, he’s set to open up to Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) as the pair meet in the graveyard.

“I didn’t know you were friends,” Liam says to Sarah as he crosses paths with her at Leanna’s grave.

“We weren’t. We weren’t not, but I liked her,” Sarah explains.

Liam begins to reflect on his loss and says: “I’m supposed to not know where she is right now.

“I should be fretting, thinking ‘why hasn’t she texted? Did she catch her flight? Which country is she in now?’

“She was going travelling you see,” he explains to Sarah.

Liam continues listing things Leanna would be doing if she were still alive: “Discovering the world before working out what to do with the rest of her life.

“You know, which university? What job? Where she’d live? A husband maybe? A family? If that happened.

“The endless possibilities of youth. You’d know all about that,” he adds, gesturing towards Sarah.

“Good luck and I mean good luck because that’s all life boils down to in the end.

“Eat your greens, leave the booze, buy a bike, join the gym – it all counts for nothing if fate decides that today is your day.

“I’m supposed to not know where she is right now, but instead I’ll know exactly where she is every second for the rest of my life,” he concludes.

Could Liam reflecting on all Leanna missed out on be a sign that he’s set to leave the village?

As he highlights how his daughter was due to go travelling, perhaps the doctor will want to achieve Leanna’s goals for her.

The only thing that could keep him behind is his new wife Leyla, but if the truth comes out about Meena it could push the pair to leave the Dales behind.

If they discover Emmerdale was not only the place Leanna died but that she was murdered there, the couple may want to leave those bad memories behind.

The newlyweds could leave the village together and travel the world in a bit to finish all that Leanna hoped to achieve.

But, will Meena be revealed as the murderer? And could Liam really wave goodbye to his beloved village?

Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.
