Emmerdale shares first look at destroyed village ahead of 50th anniversary ‘deaths’

Emmerdale fans have been given their first glimpse at what to expect in the upcoming 50th anniversary episode – which could see multiple deaths in the village.

Show runners previously revealed the village will be changed forever as a devastating storm hits the Dales, kickstarting a chain reaction of events that will change the Dales forever.

The special anniversary episode will air on Sunday 16 October and executive producer, Jane Hudson, previously said she wanted to make the hour-long special “a treat for all our loyal viewers”.

She added that she wants to ensure fans were “gripped to the edge of their seats as the stories unfold”.

In the first of a series of spoilers ITV will release over the coming days, a new picture shows the devastation set to be inflicted on the fictional Yorkshire neighbourhood.

The image shows debris and fallen trees scattered across the village's famous streets with a dark cloud hanging above.

The sign of The Woolpack pub is barely hanging on as it dangles off the post.

Prior to Jane's latest comments, she teased viewers what they could expect by saying: “We are very proud to be a jewel in Yorkshire's crown and want to make sure we celebrate our wonderful village and everyone who lives there.

"Across the month you will see stories which have you in tears, make you laugh out loud and of course, amaze you with some of the most epic stunts you will have ever seen.”

Bosses have also hinted that October would begin with the Faith Dingle death storyline, before building up to the big storm week.

From there, viewers will witness the aftermath of the incident as lives are changed forever – and it's thought the village could literally be destroyed.

It's also been reported by the Mirror that there could be "more than one death with funerals teased".

The publication also stated that "most, if not all, of the characters will feature in the scenes".

Not only that, but some characters will be left seriously injured, as they fight for their lives in what Jane stated would be a "series of epic stunts".

One stunt is said to have never been done before by any soap, and to be something "only Emmerdale can do".

On top of all that, three big returns will air too.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
