An Australian business coach who makes $20,000 working from home each month has shared her top organisation tips when running a business.
In a YouTube video, Melbourne-based entrepreneur Erin Henry, 29, revealed how she became more organised through a number of simple steps that anyone can follow.
‘I used to think that organisation was something that felt really restrictive and was something that was going to crush my creativity – but it’s actually the opposite,’ she said.
Erin turned her back on the traditional working world in late 2014 to launch her own online strategy and coaching business, The Game Changer Company, and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

Plan projects one month in advance
Erin recommends planning all major projects one month in advance to avoid feeling stressed or wasting time not knowing what to do next.
She said at the start or end of every month she dedicates a few hours to planning the next monthly calendar and filling in minute details – including what she’s going to post on social media.
While Erin never used to identify herself as an organised person, she finds planning her calendar to be a simple and helpful task.
By planning ahead this can make you feel in control of the tasks at hand and what you want to achieve.
1. Plan projects a month in advance and rely on a calendar schedule
2. Organise personal and household items and ensure everything has a place so it can be found easily
3. Restock and have spares on hand to save time going to the shop
4. Give yourself enough time to complete each task
5. Seperate each task or project into full day blocks in order to stay focused and avoid being distracted
6. Use the ‘set-up technique’ – such as meal prepping, outfit planning or client planning with appointments

Erin’s second tip involves ensuring items that are used regularly, such as pens, hair ties and cables, have their own ‘place’ in the home or office.
This will not only de-clutter an area but it will also save time looking for the particular item and make sure it’s never lost.
‘You have no idea how much easier life becomes when everything has a place,’ Erin said.

Give yourself enough time to complete each task
Rather than filling multiple small tasks into one day, Erin recommends giving yourself enough time to complete a couple of larger tasks and overestimating how long it will take to complete each one.
‘I always overestimate how long tasks are going to take – and that helps me [avoid] pushing back tasks,’ she said.
Erin suggested completing three to four tasks per day instead of five or six tasks.
Rather than filling multiple small tasks into one day, Erin recommends giving yourself enough time to complete a couple larger tasks and overestimating how long it will take to complete each one
Use the ‘set-up technique’
The ‘set-up’ technique ultimately involves breaking down a task in two separate areas – the set-up and the completion of the task – but the first step is done in advance.
‘Breaking tasks down can allow them to feel smaller or preparing your tasks in advance can allow them to feel less intimidating,’ Erin said.
Some examples include meal prepping for the week, outfit planning or laying out your gym clothes so they’re ready after work.
In another video Erin said when it comes to doing tasks, half the ‘battle’ is preparing to do the task itself rather than actually doing it.
Erin’s top tips for success in business
Have a personal brand and build it around yourself and your passions
Be 1,000 per cent authentic and don’t try and put on a facade or copy someone else or you will burn out
It takes time, be patient and build a loyal following rather than expecting the whole ‘seven figures in seven days’ concept some people believe in
Build clients and work hard – I put two videos out every week, do Facebook and Instagram live videos and send out newsletters
Be proactive in the beginning and you will have a reputable spot in the market
Change your mindset
While the final step may sound simple, Erin said telling yourself you are an organised person or can become organised can help change your mindset.
‘Every single person can benefit from being more organised,’ she said, adding: ‘You are what you say you are.’
‘Start literally telling yourself “I’m more organised” and change your relationship with what you think an organised person looks like.’
