Dick Strawbridge, 62, and Angel Strawbridge, 43, share two children together called Arthur and Dorothy. The couple moved with their family to France to renovate the 19th century Chateau de la Motte-Husson. However, while their children are fluent in French, Dick and Angel did not follow suit.

Our French is terrible.

Angel and Dick’s renovation of their 19th century property has been at the forefront of the Channel 4 series Escape to the Chateau for eight seasons.

With this and the family relocating, the children have learnt French fluently due to school, unlike their parents.

Speaking on the podcast Sweat, Snot & Tears, Angel revealed their daughter Dorothy gets very annoyed when her parents attempt to speak French.

She penned: “Our French is terrible and our children are absolutely humiliated when me and Dick try to speak French.

“Dorothy especially has this incredible French accent because she started school when she was so young.

“You can’t tell that she has an English accent and Arthur, bless him he speaks fluent French but with an English twang I like it.”

She added: “Honestly, Dorothy corrects us all the time and it’s all about the pronunciation.”

Angel and Dick have been married for six years and have a 19 year age gap between them.

Dick has two children from his first marriage named James, 37, and Charlotte, 35.

Speaking on the podcast on October 18, Angel confessed that she struggled with her feelings after becoming a mum.

“The biggest change when I did feel a little bit isolated was when I had my first child.

“Because I was just like, ‘right, your whole life changes completely.'”

“By the time I moved to France, I was in a different mental state from before I had children.”

“I think if you’re going to do a move to somewhere like this, you really have to be ready for it.”

Her move to France also led to a change to her social life, which was only exacerbated when the Covid pandemic came along.

Describing herself as a former “social butterfly”, Angel said she prefers spending quality time with her family at the chateau.

During the latest season of the Escape to the Chateau, social events began to start again, with Angel and Dick organising a birthday party for their children with their school friends.

The couple star in this year’s Homebase Christmas advert, with the couple sneaking past security to give the Homebase store a full makeover.

Their time is cut short by the store team arriving for the morning shift and they dress up as Santa and his little helper to avoid being caught.

Speaking about the advert Angel said: “We can’t lie, we left the Homebase store singing Christmas carols, feeling completely inspired by their ranges of products and eager to fill the Chateau with Christmas magic!”
