Expert shares genius hack to stop glasses from getting cloudy in dishwasher mistake

Not everyone has a dishwasher in their homes but those who are lucky enough to, definitely appreciate not having to do the dishes each day.

While it looks to be a simple process of popping your dirty dishes in and switching it on, there's actually several things you could be doing wrong each time you load your dishwasher.

The common mistakes are easy to fix, and appliance experts at AO have now outlined some top tips to help you get the best results from your dishwasher.

Taking to TikTok, AO shared a video showing how to effectively load your dishwasher and provided a surprising hack to ensure your glasses don't go cloudy.

Many people will rinse their plates and bowls before putting them in the dishwasher in a bid to make sure they come out squeaky clean, but it's actually this that's causing your glasses to come out cloudy.

AO explained how pre-rinsing impacts the effectiveness of detergent, writing: "Don't rinse your plates.

"Pre-rinsing means detergent can't attack any food, so it goes after glasses and makes them cloudy."

The appliance experts didn't stop there, and provided two further tips to enable you to get the most out of your dishwasher.

The experts revealed that you should never place cups and glasses "over" the lines, instead they should be place in between them.

Lastly, they told how plates should always face in a certain direction. The AO experts wrote: "All dishes need to face towards the centre sprayer".

This means that dishwasher users should ensure that all plates, bowls, and dishes are facing inwards towards the centre prior to starting the wash cycle.

In another helpful TikTok video, AO explained how running your dishwasher full instead of washing up by hand when there's a small amount of dirty dishes will enable you to cut down on your energy usage.

The experts have also outlined five different things that you should never put in your dishwasher, including insulated cups and mugs and non-stick pots and pans.

Sharp knives are also on the list, as well as aluminium cookware and printed measuring cups.
