Florence + The Machine Share Video For New Single Free
Florence + The Machine have released a new song, “Free,” and an accompanying video, featuring actor Bill Nighy.
The track is from the band’s upcoming fifth LP, Dance Fever, which is due to arrive on May 13 via Polydor.
The song is about battling anxiety and about the fleeting moments when that anxiety disappears through the magic of music and communal catharsis.
Florence Welch co-wrote and co-produced the song with Jack Antonoff.
The Autumn de Wilde directed video sees Welch living with a personified form of her anxiety, played by Nighy. In the visual, the two are sitting side-by-side as Nighy hands Welch a cup, symbolically signals her to get up and dance, in tandem with the lyrics “picks me up, puts me down” in the song’s chorus.
Florence + The Machine previously shared three songs, “My Love,” “King” and “Heaven is Here” from the Dance Fever album. All there were accompanied by videos by de Wilde and featured choreography by Ryan Heffington.
Florence + The Machine recorded Dance Fever in London. The record is a follow-up to their 2018 album High As Hope.
