'Hannah Montana': Miley Cyrus Writes Letter to Her Disney Channel Character 15 Years After First Episode

Miley Cyrus‘ life changed forever on March 24, 2006 when she starred in the first episode of Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana and she honored that in a new heartfelt letter. The show featured a story about a girl who lived a double life — by day, normal girl Miley Stewart — and by night, pop princess Hannah Montana. Cyrus was immediately launched into stardom following the show’s first episode, and she forged a path for a new era of Disney stars. In honor of the 15-year anniversary of the show’s first episode, Cyrus wrote a two-page letter to the character that gave her the start of her career.

Miley Cyrus honored the ‘Hannah Montana’ cast in her open letter

Cyrus’ letter to Hannah Montana was written on stationary that looks like it came from the blonde-haired pop star herself. The letter is dated March 24, 2021, emphasizing that it was written 15 years after the first episode of the show.

In the letter, Cyrus talked about some moments between her and the other people in the cast throughout the years and how close they became.

“I gained so many friends over the 6 years spent on set,” she wrote. “Emily Osment, Mitchel Musso, and Jason Earles became my family. I was seeing them more than my own.” Of course, Cyrus also saw her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, who acted as her on-screen father as well.

“Not a day goes by I forget where I came from,” Cyrus said. “A building in Burbank, California with a room full of people with the power to fulfill my destiny. And that they did. They gave me you. The greatest gift a girl could ask for.”

Miley Cyrus’ letter included a song from the Disney Channel show

Cyrus also spoke about one of the songs she sang as her character in the last season: “Wherever I Go.”

“The final episode was appropriately titled, “Wherever I Go,’” the star expressed. “After a final song by the teen pop sensation herself. You. Me? Hannah Montana.”

Cyrus discussed how the lyrics of the song rang true to her situation in 2011 leaving the show she worked on for so many years.

She commented: “The first verse sings, ‘Everything is about to change. A chapter ending but the story’s only just begun. A page is turning for everyone.”

The star further drove home the parallel of the song with her life at the time: “And closes on a soaring chorus, belting, ‘We might be apart but I hope you always know, you’ll be with me wherever I go.”

She continued, “Hannah, I hope you hear me and believe those words are true. You have all my love and [utmost] gratitude. Breathing life into you for those 6 years was an honor. I am indebted not only to you Hannah, but any and everyone who believed in me from the beginning. You have all my loyalty and deepest appreciation until the end. With all sincerity I say THANK YOU!”

Miley Cyrus admitted in the letter she’s similar to her character

The Disney Channel star also weighed in on how similar she felt her and her character were.

“Although you are considered to be an ‘alter ego,’ in reality, there was a time in my life when you held more of my identity in your glovette than I did in my bare hands,” she said. “We had an equal exchange in which you provided a superlative amount of fame in return for the anonymity I could gift to you.”

“You were like a rocket that flew me to the moon and never brought me down,” Cyrus wrote.

The full two-page letter can be viewed on Cyrus’ Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as an official Hannah Montana account on both platforms. Now that we have this beautifully-written sentiment to the show, we just have one question: When’s the reunion show?
