Hollyoaks icon Ellis Hollins spills on ’emotional’ 25th anniversary episode
Hollyoaks star Ellis Hollins has teased that fans will be grabbing for the tissues as the Channel 4 soap marks its 25th birthday in epic fashion.
A special 25th anniversary episode will air on E4 on Wednesday featuring every current adult character as they narrate a love letter from Yasmine Maalik (Haiesha Mistry) to boyfriend Tom Cunningham (Ellis Hollins) as she prepares to pop the question.
The cast were filmed separately creating the iconic moment, and it is thought the message, despite just being addressed to Tom, could well resonate with Hollyoaks fans.
Teasing the upcoming tear-jerking episode, Ellis told Daily Star Online: "It's definitely worth the wait.
"There is so much happening and I know all the fans are going to love it.
"It may well be an emotional episode. Get your tissues ready, that's all I'm going to say."
Ellis joined the cast of Hollyoaks as Tom back in 2003 when he was just three years old.
Over the years, the soap star has been involved in a number of high profile storylines including Tom's abuse at the hands of evil stepmother Clare Devine and his teenage relationship with Peri Lomax, which resulted in daughter Steph being born.
Speaking about taking centre stage in the big birthday week, Ellis said: "I'm overjoyed to have come this far and be part of the 25th anniversary.
"It's a privilege to see the show come so far. I still get nervous and excited being part of the big episodes.
"I get excited because its another challenge I get to take on as an actor and nervous because you want to do it right as it's such a milestone."
In recent scenes, Tom has been having doubts over whether he is holding Yazz back, but she will aim to show him her commitment with a grand gesture in Wednesday's first-look episode.
In celebration of the soap's special birthday, Yazz will enlist Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe), Warren (Jamie Lomas), Martine (Kéllé Bryan), Cindy (Stephanie Waring), Felix (Richard Blackwood) and many more to read Yazz's romantic letter.
"I think Tom knows what Yazz wants and things are starting to heat up between them," Ellis teased.
"Things are getting more serious and Tom has got to make some big decisions."
Will Tom accept Yazz's proposal?
That’s not the only thing on offer in tonight’s instalment either, as – given that its the actual birthday episode — there’s plenty in store! Kurt Benson (Jeremy Edwards) makes his highly anticipated return, and the sinister McQueen’s blackmail plot thickens.
Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4
