Inside Corrie’s Curly Watts’ life – unrecognisable appearance and career change

Actor Kevin Kennedy lives a completely different life from his former character, Curly Watts on ITV's Coronation Street.

The actor, 60, had played Norman 'Curly' Watts for 20 years on the popular soap before the character and his second wife, Emma Taylor, made the move to Newcastle upon Tyne in 2003.

He however reprised his role for a brief appearance in the 2010 DVD spin-off, Coronation Street – A Knight's Tale.

During his return, Curly revealed that he and Emma had since ended their marriage.

Since leaving, Kevin has shared an interest in returning full-time but ITV have no plans for Curly to head back to Weatherfield.

Kevin quit Corrie on May 15 2003 but what has the actor been up to since leaving? Daily Star have trawled through the archives to bring you the latest.

Since leaving the programme, Kevin's career ventures have varied, with roles both behind and in front of the camera.

Between 2005 and 2007, Kevin wrote and produced Spanish Caspers for Sky Television plc before the series was discontinued by the network.

Despite his TV series ending in 2007, the Manchester-born actor went on to appear in the touring production of We Will Rock You by Queen and Ben Elton, playing the ageing hippie, Pop in 2009.

Following the success of his role on the tour, Kevin went on to take a role in the West End production of the same show just one year later.

While a West End and national tour would be enough to top anyone's CV, Kevin went on to join the world's third-largest cruise ship, RCI Anthem of the Seas in 2015 to once again perform with We Will Rock You.

Seven years on from his initial cruise, Kevin has gone on to appear as Pop in the UK Seacation cruises that set off from Southampton in 2021.

He has made brief appearances in television shows, appearing in Holby City back in 2017 as a David Bowie tribute act.

While his most recent acting credit is taking on the role of Clyde (The Angel) in the Christmas special of Mrs Brown's Boys back on December 25, 2019.

It now appears that Kevin could be set to swap the small screen for the big screen, after hinting to his Instagram followers that he had secured work on a movie.

He said: "On my way to film my first modest but important movie role!!!"

Recently, Kevin has returned to Rock of Ages and is once again touring the nation but has a completely different career away from the stage and screen.

He's since set up his own charity, Kennedy Street Foundation, helping those struggling with addictive and mental health struggles after batting an alcohol addiction for 22 years.

Kevin told the Manchester Evening News: "The Kennedy Street Foundation is my passion; all we want to do is help people who find themselves in the desperate situation I was in 22 years ago.

"Our national recovery helpline is receiving calls every day and we really need to raise as much money as possible in order to be able to help each and everyone start their own Road2Recovery."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV at 8pm
