Inside Tony Romo’s Relationship With His Wife

Dallas Cowboys quarterback-turned-broadcaster Tony Romo has one of the most celebrated careers in NFL history — even if, as Sportscasting noted, he was infamously snubbed from the draft three years running. Romo subsequently made quarterback in place of stalwart Drew Bledsoe. He spent the following decade earning historic numbers on the field, while his final two seasons were plagued by injuries. After retiring in 2016, Romo pivoted to doing lively commentary for CBS.

His wife and lifelong supporter Candice Crawford heralded the move. As For The Win noted in 2018, Romo was known for breaking down games at home to the extent, “I even got him a pointer because it was very serious.” Crawford advised of his savvy career move, “this was a natural transition.” The celebrated quarterback was romantically linked to Jessica Simpson and Carrie Underwood back in the day, but for the past decade and change, Crawford has been his ride-or-die.

The couple met through their love of sports

As Heavy noted, this couple began dating officially back in 2009. Candice Crawford was actually working in broadcasting at the time, as a reporter and anchor for local station CW33 in Dallas, for whom she “covered high school sports and hosted a daily lifestyle segment.” As her brother, Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford, revealed during a 2016 interview on The Rich Eisen Show, she and Tony Romo actually met while she was interning for the Cowboys.

Following an interview with Romo, he casually asked her out on a movie/dinner date. However, Crawford was concerned her parents’ Cowboys obsession would put the NFL star off, so when he came to pick her up, she made them hide. “She didn’t realize Tony was coming over to pick her up. It caught her off-guard, so she pushes my parents back [in their master bathroom]. I thought that was really funny,” Chace recalled.

Candice Crawford is completely outnumbered at home

As People reported, Tony Romo proposed to Candice Crawford on her 24th birthday in 2010. The two tied the knot in May of the following year at Arlington Hall in Dallas, with a source enthusing, “It was perfect! From the ceremony in beautiful white, to a vibrant after-party and great music selected by Tony himself.” Three sons followed: Hawkins, Rivers, and Jones, born in 2012, 2014, and 2017, respectively, as per E! News.

Romo is delighted to be living in a predominantly male household, quipping that he was “building my own basketball team.” He gave an insight into their home life too, revealing, “Mom is definitely the stricter parent. Dad is fun time.” Crawford admitted to FTW that the kids miss attending Cowboys games on a regular basis, but Romo’s retirement suits them because, “they love that daddy’s home a lot more.” No matter what, they’re all on the same team.
