Is the Stargirl TV series related to the movie or the book? – The Sun
STARGIRL is the new highly-anticipated superhero drama from DC set to premiere in May.
But is the TV series related to the Disney+ movie or the book by Jerry Spinelli?
Is Stargirl related to the movie or the book
Though Stargirl shares its name with the Disney+ movie and the popular YA book, they are totally unrelated.
The Stargirl movie is based on the young adult coming-of-age story by Jerry Spinelli.
The titular character is Susan “Stargirl” Caraway, a high school student who struggles to fit in with her peers.
What is Stargirl about?
Stargirl is based on the DC Comics superhero of the same name.
Regular high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (played by Brec Bassinger) discovers she has superpowers.
She learns that her step-father Pat Dugan (played by Luke Wilson) used to be the sidekick of superhero Starman.
Whitmore decides to use her new-found powers for good, and becomes the inspiration for a new generation of superheroes.
Ahead of the series premiere, characters from the series were featured in the Arrowverse crossover 'Crisis on Infinite Earths', establishing Stargirl as existing in the Arrowverse.
Where can I watch Stargirl?
The show will premiere on Monday, May 18, 2020 on DC Universe.
However, fans can also catch episodes of Stargirl the day after they air on The CW.
The show will follow this pattern for the rest of the season, although DC Universe members will have access to bonus features and exclusives that won’t be available to those watching on The CW.
These additional features will include extended versions of selected episodes, and behind-the-scenes footage of the cast and crew.
