Jennifer Carpenter to Make a Return to ‘Dexter’ on Revival Series

Co-star John Lithgow teases that the actress playing homicide detective Debra Morgan is likely to be making an appearance on the 10-episode project by Showtime.

AceShowbiz -Actress Jennifer Carpenter is bringing her “Dexter” character back to life for the upcoming series revival.

The star played homicide detective Debra Morgan, the sister of Michael C. Hall‘s titular character, a forensic blood spatter analyst with a dark, secret life, on the original crime drama series, which ran for eight seasons until 2013.

Carpenter’s onscreen alter ego was killed off in the series finale, but it appears she will be back in some capacity for the limited revival.

Co-star John Lithgow divulged the news of Carpenter’s involvement as he discussed his own return to the hit TV show, on which he played Arthur Mitchell, aka the Trinity Killer, who also met his demise in season four.

“As all ‘Dexter’ fans know, we saw the end of the Trinity Killer, so that by definition means it’s a flashback,” Lithgow explained to Deadline.com about how his role fits into the arc of the new episodes.

“It was just wonderful to rejoin that gang – including Michael and Jennifer Carpenter and [showrunner] Clyde Phillips.”

Bosses at U.S. cable network Showtime gave “Dexter” a 10-episode order in October 2020, bringing Hall and writer/director Phillips back together for the new project.

About the revival, Phillips previously stated, “We basically do get to start from scratch. Ten years, or however many years, have passed by the time this will air, and the show will reflect that time passage.”

The showrunner added, “So far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was. It’s a great opportunity to write a second finale for our show, and Showtime was very gracious about that.”
