Jesy Nelson determined to crack the US where Little Mix failed
LITTLE Mix never cracked the US – but Jesy Nelson’s new team are doing everything they can to make sure she does after going solo.
The plan includes fighting to get Jesy on one of the biggest global stages.
I can reveal that ten years after shooting to fame on The X Factor, she is in talks to appear at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York next month for the most significant performance of her career so far.
Her new US label, Republic Records, is pushing for Jesy to sing her debut single Boyz with Nicki Minaj at the ceremony, which also features Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo and Camila Cabello.
An insider said: “The MTV VMAs is one of the biggest nights in music, watched by millions around the world, so everyone is working hard to get Jesy a performance slot.
“Nothing has been locked in yet but talks are happening right now and if her team pulls it off, it will be huge.
“If she pulled off a killer performance, it would show that she is here to take the pop world by storm.
“Her label thinks the single will appeal to people in the US as it samples Bad Boy For Life by P Diddy and features Nicki, so putting her in front of those audiences will give her career there a huge boost.”
Boyz will be released early next month with a big-budget video shot earlier this month.
Little Mix never performed at such a key US awards show but did host November’s MTV EMAs — minus Jesy — in Europe.
As well as the other big names at the bash on September 12, which airs on MTV here the following night, the Foo Fighters will receive the first Global Icon Award.
Celebrating the band’s contribution to music is well overdue.
Bey gets behind her brand
BEYONCE brought a whole new meaning to a full moon in her latest fashion photoshoot.
The Irreplaceable singer wore a pair of very revealing denim chaps along with a matching thong, blue T-shirt and cowboy hat as she promoted her Ivy Park Rodeo collection with Adidas.
Her Bootylicious new snaps have certainly caused a stir. And while I’m sure the new range will sell out in moments, I have a feeling these chaps won’t be at the top of most people’s shopping list.
We’ll probably see some desperate reality TV wannabes trying to rock this look on next year’s Love Island.
But I reckon if you wore these on a trip to the supermarket, you might get chucked out for indecent exposure.
THE WORD ON THE STREETS
PROFESSOR GREEN has been scathing about advice given to him by Mike Skinner when The Sreets frontman was a mentor in the early days of his career.
The Dry Your Eyes star’s songwriting tip is in Pro’s new book – on a page that readers are meant to rip out and burn.
Pro – real name Stephen Manderson – claimed Mike told him: “If you’ve got a bad idea, you can work it into a good idea.”
The rapper said: “I was like, ‘What?’ I would rather write nothing than write something crap’.”
Pro teamed up with Smokehead Whisky to help pen their 16-page Smokehead Rule Book.
Judging by his recent dodgy music, I’d have thought he HAD been taking Mike’s advice.
Shawn loves summer job
POP stars have the perfect excuse to go on sunny holidays – they can just call it work.
That’s what Shawn Mendez appeared to do when he took a vital business trip from New York to Majorca to splash about in the sea, drive about in a convertible and lie around on the deck of a boat deck for his latest video.
Shawn was working hard as he mucked around with mates at sunset in the clip for Summer Of Love. I’m surprised every singer doesn’t insist on such exotic locations.
THE WEEKND PAD
SPENDING eight weeks at No1 with Blinding Lights last year clearly did wonders for The Weeknd’s bank balance – as he has just forked out £51.4million on a new home.
He splashed the massive sum in one of the biggest deals in LA so far this year. The house in Bel-Air sits on 1.6 acres of land and has nine bedrooms, along with a sports court, spa, indoor pool, outdoor infinity pool with a waterfall, cinema, gym and, most importantly for him, a music studio.
There will be no reason to ever leave.
Roxy checks out Bill
ROXY HORNER’s other half Jack Whitehall is 5,000 miles away filming a new movie – so she’s found another comedian to make her giggle instead.
The model wore this tight mini-dress to go to London venue Proud Embankment, where Strictly Come Dancing winner Bill Bailey is performing as part of a special run of cabaret shows.
Joined by her mum, Roxy let her hair down as they took in the kooky performance that included fire eaters and Bill playing tin bells.
Jack is currently in New Mexico filming upcoming romantic comedy Robots.
Last month Roxy had to move out of the comic’s London home after it flooded during torrential rain, damaging the kitchen and dining area.
Hopefully Bill was able to give Roxy a much-needed laugh.
Anne-Marie's clean, but Lizzo's a stinker
THERE are a fair few wild pop stars around but Anne-Marie has always been well-behaved and squeaky clean – and you shouldn’t expect that to change.
The Kiss My (Uh Oh) singer has admitted any rock’n’roll madness is never going to come from her because she gets hangovers from eating chicken and chips, let alone going on the lash.
In an exclusive chat, she said: “I’ve always been a lightweight so every time I would drink, I would get a hangover. So I’m used to it.
“But I actually get hangovers now from eating bad food. That’s how old I’m getting basically. Nandos even, I’m at that point.”
Anne-Marie is bonkers at the best of times, so I doubt she would ever need a drink to lose her inhibitions anyway.
LIZZO has joined a long list of celebrities with dodgy hygiene, revealing she never wears deodorant.
Jake Gyllenhaal, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher recently revealed they rarely wash, but now the Truth Hurts singer has insisted her body odour has improved since she stopped trying to use the product.
Replying to a post which said, “Matthew McConaughey hasn’t used deodorant in over 35 years,” Lizzo wrote on Instagram: “OK… I’m with him on this one. I stopped using deodorant and I smell BETTER.”
I’ll believe it when I smell it. On second thoughts, I’d rather not.
