'KUWTK': Khloé Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian Used to Walk to Work Before Becoming Famous: 'We Literally Had No Money'

Keeping Up With the Kardashians will air its final episode on Thursday, June 10, 2021. The series introduced E! networks’ audience to Kim Kardashian West and the Kardashian-Jenner family. Although the show had a successful 20-season run, Khloé Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian lived different lives before KUWTK launched.

Khloé Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian lived together before ‘KUWTK’ took off

Although their father, Robert Kardashian, Sr, worked on O.J. Simpson’s famous murder trial, the Kardashian family didn’t always have the same riches they possess today. When KUWTK debuted in Oct. 2007, Kardashian West and her family only had their boutique, Dash. They started the company shortly after Robert Sr died in 2003.

In 2016, Kardashian opened up about where she and Kourtney were in their lives long before KUWTK. According to Refinery 29, the Revenge Body host said she wasn’t taking care of her emotional or financial needs when Kourtney rented the store. Even though the sisters moved into a condo together to make ends meet, they found themselves investing all of their money in Dash.

“We put everything on Kourt’s credit card — we literally had no money,” Kardashian wrote on her app. “Kourt and I lived together in an apartment down the street, and we didn’t own any cars, so we didn’t have a lot of expenses — we’d either walk to work or get rides from our friends. Everything went into Dash, but we were really determined and kept working at it to get where we are today.”

Why Khloé Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian didn’t want to do ‘KUWTK’

After the Kardashian sisters launched Dash in 2006, E! approached Kris Jenner about a possible reality show. KUWTK would follow Kardashian West and the family as they live, travel, and work together.

Although Kardashian West was the show’s star, fans soon fell in love with the entire tribe. However, Kardashian admitted in 2016 that not everyone wanted to share their lives on a reality show. During an interview with Harpers Bazaar, the mother of one said she and Kourtney didn’t think the show was a good fit for them. She also said they only agreed to KUWTK when the producers promised they could still work together at Dash.

“Kourtney and I didn’t want to do the show,” Kardashian said. “We weren’t anti the show, but we were so obsessed with our clothing store, and I couldn’t imagine having to give that up.”

Khloé was against ‘Keeping Up’ ending

KUWTK decided to end after 14 years, 20 seasons, and 11 spinoffs. The Kar-Jenners officially announced the show’s final season in Sept. 2020. Kardashian West was the first member of the family to speak on the decision via Instagram.

Since the announcement, Keeping Up aired its final season in March 2021. During the new episodes, the family discussed their feelings about the show’s ending. Kardashian admitted that she initially didn’t want KUWTK to end while discussing the family’s group meeting to discuss their future on the show in an episode, per Cosmopolitan.

“I think it’s like, everyone wishes that it could be less,” Kardashian said. “Do I think we all need a break sometimes? Yeah, but I don’t know if that necessarily means, like, to stop. Going into this meeting, I really assumed it would be just a conversation that we’re all going to have. But now that I’m in the meeting, it’s definitely clear that everyone’s decisions have been made and that mine would probably be the only one that is against the rest of the family.”
