Louise Minchin hosted BBC Breakfast alongside Dan Walker on Tuesday morning and was trying her best to not think about the fact it would be her penultimate outing on the show. Wednesday will mark her final time presenting the early morning news programme, after around 20 years of working on the show. On Tuesday’s episode, Dan couldn’t help but ask his co-star how she was feeling ahead of her last day.
As the programme drew to a close, Dan swiftly asked: “Ready for your final day tomorrow by the way?”
Clearly taken aback by the question, Louise smiled and said: “I just – as I said I’m trying not to think about it.”
“Okay, well so am I,” Dan confessed, causing Louise to burst out laughing.
“That’s it from us this morning. I will be back tomorrow one last time!” Louise exclaimed.
Earlier on in the show, Louise thanked Morning Live presenters Gethin Jones and Janette Manrara for the leaving gift they gave her.
She remarked: “Can I say thank you to you both for your very thoughtful present – swimming goggles!
“Couldn’t be better. I opened it already,” Louise admitted.
Gethin replied: “You’ve received it? Ah you’ve opened it already.”
Louise laughed as Dan explained how she just couldn’t wait to unwrap the present.
He revealed: “This is the problem right. I gave it to her today and I said this is a lovely present from Gethin and Janette and the whole team at Morning Live and she just opened it straight away.”
Janette burst out laughing as Gethin remarked: “We don’t mind that. It’s just to say good luck with it.
“I know you’re going to be doing a lot of triathlons after you’ve finished so we’re sending you lots of love,” he added.
Louise replied: “I’m really touched. Thank you.”
However, Dan pointed out: “You’ve put the pressure on for my pressie tomorrow now!”
“Sorry Dan! Just dance really well at the weekend it’ll be fine,” Jannette said, in reference to the fact Dan will be making his Strictly Come Dancing debut on Saturday.
“Oh that’s my gift to the world that is,” Dan joked.
Louise also shared her emotions with fans on Twitter, writing: “Good morning, penultimate sofa selfie. Goodness me. I can’t quite believe it! #BBCBreakfast.”
Viewers were quick to reply on Twitter, noting how sad they were to see her go.
“Oh, Louise! It really is going to be so sad tomorrow,” one fan wrote.
Another added: “Good morning, I can’t believe its all coming to the an end of an era tomorrow.”
“Going to record it tomorrow as I will miss some due to work but will have my tissues ready when I get back and watch it x will miss you @louiseminchin,” a third commented.
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
