Louise Minchin slams Dan Walker for missing BBC leaving party in on-air clash

BBC Breakfast host Louise Minchin was far from impressed with her co-star Dan Walker after he didn't attend her leaving party.

Monday morning's show (13 September) saw the pair front the breakfast news show like usual, but they quickly clashed when it came to the topic of parties.

However, Louise decided to blast Dan for not turning up to her leaving party – leaving Dan desperately trying to defend his actions on air.

Louise and Dan had been chatting about the recent celebrations from Team GB's Paralympians as they watched heartwarming footage of the athletes partying upon their return to the UK.

Louise told Dan: "It's so nice to see people out enjoying themselves."

Dan replied: "It's given me some inspiration for your leaving party that clip".

However, Louise never misses a beat, and she was quick to call out her co-anchor in front of the cameras.

Things turned awkward in the studio when Louise fired back: "Well you missed the leaving party."

In a quick attempt to defend his actions, Dan clarified: "Well, one of them."

Louise burst out laughing as her co-host Dan went on: "When you say missed, right when you say missed…"

But Louise cut across him, saying: "You were busy doing Strictly."

"Well not busy, I had to. You know what it’s like", Dan replied.

Louise teased: "No I don’t. I don’t know what it’s like,"

Dan resorted to flattery when he protested: "You’re aware of my love and devotion to you Louise."

Later in the show, Louise teased her co-star about his absence at the party again.

She remarked: "It was really fun Dan. You did miss out. I’m sorry about that, but you did. What was the excuse?"

Dan replied: "It’s not a terrible excuse because obviously we are a good partnership. But, this was the only time…"

Louise joked that Dan was replacing her with a new partner already, saying: "Oh so you’re finding a new partner already?

Dan insisted: "I had to meet my new Strictly partner. And the reason – lots of people are saying ‘why have you met your partner already?’

"Because of the pandemic last year, what they did when they did Strictly was, you met your partner beforehand and they filmed it and then they showed that on the launch night.

"So, it’s launch night for Strictly this Saturday so everybody’s already met their partners.

"But, I’m sworn to secrecy. Otherwise the Strictly ninjas will come and get me,", Dan jokes.

He continued:" So the only reason, Louise, I wasn’t at your party was because I was meeting my new partner for however long that lasts. Probably about two weeks."

Louise had some good news for Dan, announcing to him: "Well, luckily for you there’s another one planned,"

Dan replied: "So, I can come to the second one?"

Louise said: "I don't know. Hopefully!"
