Mrs Brown’s Boys has cemented itself as an enduring comedy staple for the BBC. 10 years after its initial debut, Agnes Brown (played by Brendan O’Carroll) once again returned to screens, but this time she got a ghostly surprise by a visage from her past. The event was live, but some fans didn’t seem to enjoy it.

Mrs Brown’s Boys made the announcement earlier this year that the show would return for a live special.

Fans were excited to see the usual antics unfold, with the added pressure of the broadcast being live to the UK, Ireland, and USA.

The show aired without a hitch as the stars managed to get through the special without stumbling any major lines.

Yet, for some viewers that still wasn’t good enough, as many fans were left unimpressed by the new Mrs Brown offering.

Viewers took to social media in droves to share their disdain for the programme, and many of them didn’t hold back on their scathing criticism.

On Twitter, @Fintan_Pox wrote: “Time to sit back and relax, and watch anything other than #mrsbrownsboys.”

@Kay2021J shared: “Who watches that rubbish? Thank goodness for #Gogglebox.”

@ColinDD44 commented: “You could watch #mrsbrownsboys tonight. Or you could s**t on your hands then clap. I think I’d rather.”

“Time to give it a rest I think BBC #mrsbrownsboys,” Paulaswright added.

@bul22lightweight shared: “Who the hell commissioned this drivel!!! #MrsBrownsBoys.”

“I’ve never seen it, and just assumed #mrsbrownsboys wasn’t for me. Turns out it’s worse than I imagined,” wrote @james1212.

@mrgaryreed acclaimed: “This is absolutely atrocious @MrsBrownsBoys.”

“Huge fan of the show but this for a live special tv event is poor #MrsBrownsBoys,” @sharon697.

While some of the stars tripped over their lines, the show wrapped with the special finishing smoothly.

The cast got together for a final song and dance, with the audience joining in to clap.

While audiences some at home didn’t seem to enjoy the show, those in the audience were loving the special.

And there was still some support for the Mrs Brown’s Boy special, as others threw their support behind the episode.

PhilipJohnNI commented: “Well #mrsbrownsboys has been and gone for this #halloween2021. Could have been worse and it does entertain.”

@JDBonciOfficial added: “The Halloween special was so Hilarious I laughed from start to finish!” (sic)

“Loved tonight’s live episode of #mrsbrownsboys. All of you did an amazing job,” @kayleigh1317 shared.

“Congrats!! Your grandchildren have grown so much! Loved it! Happy Halloween #mrsbrownsboys,” @BelleChristmas1 wrote.

Mrs Browns Boys is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
