Sunday Brunch’s Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer asked guests to taste some unusual dishes, including pizza with banana, strawberries with cheese and watermelon with mustard. Some guests on the Channel 4 show were pleasantly surprised by the flavours, but the bizarre strawberry and cheese combination didn’t go down very well.
Tim explained: “The next dish is from research which has recently claimed that to bring out the best flavour of your strawberries, you can sprinkle cheese on it rather than cream.
“So we’ve got some Parmesan – so Parmesan on your strawberries – try this one next.”
YouTuber and rapper KSI, actor Adrian Lester and Ellie all sampled the odd plate of food.
“Oh no, no!” Ellie could be heard screeching as she pushed the plate away.
“Not for me – that’s not going to take off at Wimbledon I don’t think.”
Simon commented: “It feel s a bit like someone’s put them inside their shoes.”
“It does!” Ellie replied, clearly disgusted at the dish. Tim added: “I think the strawberry is so overpowering I can’t really taste the cheese.”
“Yeah, you get that aftertaste don’t you,” Simon went on. Ellie cut in to say: “Of feet, yeah.”
“I don’t mind it though,” Time admitted. They turned to KSI to see what he thought of the food, but he had gone back to the previous dish of pizza and banana.
“He’s back on the pizza,” Simon laughed as KSI continued to dig into the other dish.
When they tried the pizza, Ellie said: “I think we’re all just so bored in lockdown that we’re like ‘let’s put kiwi in cottage pie’.”
“I think that’s good,” Tim said. Simon remarked: “It tastes like margarita with a piece of banana on top.”
“I was expecting that to be worse, it’s weirdly okay,” Adrian added.
The group also enjoyed the watermelon and mustard combination.
“That’s actually not bad,” Ellie said. Viewers were quick to weigh in on the discussion.
One took to Twitter to say: “@SundayBrunchC4 Don’t like bananas but I’m going to try the strawberries and cheese #SundayBrunch.”
Another commented: “Cheese? F*** off #SundayBrunch,” while a third said: “Banana on a pizza. It’s common place in South Africa! Bacon , banana and garlic absolutely amazing!! #SundayBrunch.”
Sunday Brunch airs weekly at 9.30am on Channel 4.
