There’s still a bit of a wait to go before the highly anticipated sixth season of Outlander finally hits Starz. Thankfully, all five previous seasons are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, but rewatching the steamy science fiction drama has sadly exposed some unfortunate continuity errors.
A baffling continuity mistake has been spotted in one of the most important moments in the history of Outlander.
Claire Randall (played by Caitriona Balfe) begins the series as a nurse in WWII, but her life is thrown into chaos when a trip to Scotland results in her being sent back in time to the 1700s.
Trapped in Scotland during the Jacobite Rebellion, it’s there she meets and falls in love with the rugged Highlander, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).
Holding her hand throughout Claire’s terrifying ordeal, the pair eventually marry and have since begun a new life in America in the latest seasons.
However, looking back at their first meeting has revealed a peculiar mishap with the show’s wardrobe.
Some viewers couldn’t help but be distracted by Jamie’s plaid throughout the pivotal scene.
One eagle-eyed viewer was so preoccupied with the error during the fateful scene they included it in a recent article in Screen Rant outlining some of the show’s biggest mistakes.
They wrote: “After resetting his shoulder, the group sets out to ride, bringing Claire with them. Jamie, who was just wearing a shirt before, puts his plaid back on as they go outside.”
“As he talks to Claire, his plaid is sometimes over his shoulder and sometimes not.”
“It continues to cut back and forth until they all ride off at last.”
Outlander’s epic romance first began way back in 2014 with the show’s first episode, ‘Sassenach’.
Claire sees Jamie for the first time after he’s injured in a forest battle, resulting in a dislocated shoulder.

The grisly sequence of clicking his joints back into place eventually led to a tender first meeting between Outlander’s central couple.
Their introduction to one another even helped Jamie’s comrades soften their suspicions towards Claire after her sudden appearance.
After being captured by Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) and his men, Claire proves she can be of use to the Highlanders by applying her medical knowledge to Jamie’s injury.
Sadly, this vital scene in the first ever episode of the show was somewhat undermined by the continuity mistake for some viewers.
To make matters worse, not even Claire and Jamie’s wedding night was free from the show’s infamous continuity errors.
Screen Rant explained: “The ceremony is full of traditions which, to Claire, seem foreign and unusual.
“For example, they need to slice open their wrists so that they bleed.
“Jamie and Claire are shown very explicitly to have their wrists cut into, but as the episode continues on, there is absolutely no sign of the cuts that we were shown in any scene that is set after this.”
Thankfully, the series has come a long way since then, but these confusing mistakes may nevertheless make re-watching the iconic series a little difficult for some viewers.
Outlander season 6 will premiere in early 2022 on Starz.
