Will Marsali and Fergus break up amid family drama?
In the sixth season of Outlander, it looks certain that all the characters will be put to the test like never before.
With the Revolutionary War dawning, there are threats coming from outside and within.
Yet, it is the internal struggles that fans have loved about the show, with the emotional drama of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) often taking centre stage.
But they are not the only pair to be facing the unknown in season six, as a recent interview with Lauren Lyle has made fans nervous for Marsali and Fraser.
Speaking to Radio Times, the star gave some insight on where her character is heading and what to expect from season six as a whole.
Lyle admitted the young couple will be “at their most tested” in season six, once again proving Outlander isn’t afraid to pull at the heartstrings for viewers.
The star added: “Marsali and Fergus have always been this fun, romantic couple – young, cool – like the ones that make people laugh and are just really in love with each other and have all these kids.
“And this time [in season six], it just got really deep and really dark.”
The overall plot for season six is still unknown, though it will be based on Diana Gabaldon’s sixth book A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
In the novel, the couple is tested, not just by each other, but by the people of Fraser’s Ridge following a series of rumours concerning the Fraser family.
In the book, Marsali gives birth to a boy named Henri Christian, who is born with dwarfism.
News of the birth quickly spreads through the town leading to the family suffering cruel persecution due to the superstitions of the age.
Lyle continues: “It’s the most tumultuous time that we’ve seen them and their relationship [in].
“And Marsali really has, this season – it’s the first time you see her having to step up, and she’s sort of supporting the family and dealing with her own needs.”
The plot thread concerning Henri Christian may have been teased already, as Starz revealed several stills from the new season earlier this year.
In one, Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) can be seen holding a baby as he walks through a river, it looks to be a desperate moment.
If this image is in relation to the Henri Christian storyline, it could be that Roger is being chased by locals, desperately trying to protect the boy.
For now, speculation will continue to run wild by fans as Starz have not yet dropped a trailer for the new season.
A release date has also not been revealed, with only an early 2022 premiere window confirmed by Starz.
Taking to Twitter, fans have been sharing their excitement to see more of the Fraser family in season six.
One fan wrote: “I’m SO SO excited for more Frasers in my life!”
“Can’t wait for season 6! Just started watching Outlander again for the second time,” another added.
A third commented: “Omg Fisher folk and Henri Christian. Roger’s rescue and Jamie telling how it is, can’t wait for S6!”
Outlander season six will premiere in early 2022 on Starz in the USA. A UK release date has not been confirmed.
