Pliny the Younger will go virtual next year — with a catch
Just like many other events in the time of the coronavirus, the biggest beer event in the US will go virtual next year.
Fans of Pliny the Younger won’t be lining up in person at the Russian River Brewing Company to get their seasonal triple India pale ale.
“Like most major beer releases and other special events during this COVID-era, we are hitting the pause button on our annual 2021 Pliny the Younger release,” the company said on its website.
“While we are sad to miss seeing our loyal friends and fans from around the world, it has become clear that it will not be safe for us to gather again by February 2021.”
But those who want to get their hands on the beer will have a chance — with a catch.
The 2021 Pliny the Younger launch will be available online and will be sold around the end of January or early February. However, bottles will only be available to ship to customers in California.
“At this time, we are only able to ship within the state of California for cost, compliance and legal reasons,” they wrote on the website.
The cases available for purchase will include four bottles of Pliny the Younger, plus two each of the other Russian River Brewing Company beers.
Customers are limited to one case per person, and it will cost around $100, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Neither of their Santa Rosa or Windsor pubs have been allowed to reopen for indoor dining since March.
