Rebekah Vardy has to pay Coleen Rooney £1.5m in legal costs after she lost their Wagatha Christie case.

The star must pay some of the sum by next month.

It comes after the pair's high-profile legal battle earlier this year.

The case, which gripped the nation, started after Coleen posted a message on Instagram accusing fellow WAG Rebekah of leaking stories about her to the press, which Rebekah insisted wasn't true.

Rebekah, who is married to footy ace Jamie, took action for libel but lost when a judge decided that Coleen's post was "substantially true".

The 40-year-old has now been told by a judge that she must pay 90% of Coleen's costs for the trial, which concluded after nine days in May this year.

In a judgment released today, Mrs Justice Steyn said the legal bill – which Coleen is said to not have finalised with the court – was previously estimated by Coleen's lawyer Paul Lunt at £1,667,860.48.

The judgment also revealed that Coleen – who has four sons with footballer Wayne – wanted 100% of her costs paid and Rebekah wanted to pay 80% as the judge had found in her favour for certain matters.

After losing her libel bid this year, Rebekah expressed her disappointment, saying in a statement: "I am extremely sad and disappointed at the decision that the Judge has reached.

"It is not the result that I had expected, nor believe was just. I brought this action to vindicate my reputation and am devastated by the Judge’s finding."

She went on: "The judge accepted that publication of Coleen's post was not in the 'public interest' and she also rejected her claim that I was the 'Secret Wag'. But as for the rest of her judgement, she got it wrong and this is something I cannot accept."
