Riverdale fans expose major plot hole with Jughead’s staged death after Stonies bunker bombshell – The Sun

RIVERDALE fans are less than impressed with the most recent episode of The CW teen drama, which lead to a lot of confusion and viewers pointing out major plot holes.

The previous episode of the series, which airs on Netflix globally, shed a light on the fate of Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), who faked his death to try and expose the crimes of The Stonies, including the murder of Mr. Chipping (Sam Witwer).

Unfortunately the revelation left fans a bit underwhelmed, because many had guessed Jughead had not actually died in the season three cliffhanger.

The episode was presented in documentary style as local journalist Alice Cooper (Mädchen Amick) spearheaded a tribute to Jughead from his peers and other Riverdale residents.

But Jughead is revealed to be very much alive after the audience sees him smooching with girlfriend Betty in bed.

Apparently, Jughead's iconic beanie is what kept him alive, absorbing the impact of the rock levelled at his head.

Drama aside, Jughead’s staged death isn’t a total surprise. Most fans assumed that Jughead was indeed alive, considering he’s such a major character on the series.

"It was so obvious Jughead's death was fake," one Twitter user wrote.

Fans were also quick to point out inconsistencies in the elaborate fake death plot.

The plan revolved around Betty (Lili Reinhart) planting an item belonging to Jughead in Donna’s (Sarah Desjardins) room, which lead to Donna manipulating Jughead’s father, FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich), into believing that Betty, Archie (AJ Kapa) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) murdered Jughead.

The trio were released from police custody after it was revealed the rock that was believed to kill Jughead was actually covered in fake blood, convincing Donna he was still alive.

This then leads Donna on a wild good chase to find Jughead, resulting in her thinking she's found his hideout, only to stumble across Betty and Archie smooching.

Betty’s elaborate scheme of pretending her and Archie were hooking up made Donna follow Betty into the bunker in the woods.

She had hoped that Donna would lose her cool after seeing the two making out, but it turns out they were faking it to throw everyone off the scent of Jughead's fake death.

Eventually everyone learns Jughead was alive all along, leaving fans left scratching their heads, consdiering some of the perpetrators had played to dumb to each other when their were no witnesses around to dupe.

“Why did Veronica and Archie get worried a couple of episodes back and concerned if Betty killed Jughead if they were in on it?” one Reddit user pointed out.

“It’s not like they were acting to hide it in front of each other. They were alone?

“Also when they found Betty in the woods they said ‘Betty what did you do?’ When they could have all stood up including Jughead and say well played!”

It's fair to say that the interaction was entirely to lead viewers astray ahead of the bombshell revelation.

This prompted another fan to reply: “I'd say that it's a reasonable assumption that the Riverdale writers typically don't think more than an episode ahead at any given time.

“They've always been pretty scattershot at long-term storytelling.”

Riverdale airs on The CW every Wednesday at 8pm.
