Riverdale season 4, episode 18 release date: When does Riverdale return?

Season four of Riverdale appears to be starting and stopping after the show recently returned from nearly a month’s hiatus. The teen drama is going to be taking another break for a week, which is likely to leave fans frustrated. Express.co.uk has everything you need to know about when the next episode of Riverdale will be airing on television.

When will Riverdale season 4, episode 18 be released?

Riverdale season four, episode 18 is titled Chapter Seventy-Five: Lynchian, presumably a reference to visionary American film director David Lynch.

The show is a pastiche of pop culture with nods littered throughout, including to Lynch’s surreal television masterpiece Twin Peaks.

The teen series even has actress Mädchen Amick starring as tenacious Riverdale Register editor Alice Cooper.

Given the title, it’s likely the forthcoming instalment will pay tribute to Lynch and his body of work.

Lynchian will also continue with the fallout of the core four, following the two break ups.

The CW has confirmed Lynchian will be airing on Wednesday, April 29 in the US at 8pm Eastern Standard Time.

Lynchian will be available on The CW app the following day for fans to watch on catch up.

Netflix UK will be dropping the episode on Thursday, April 30 from 8am BST for British fans.

The American network has also released a short synopsis, which reads: “Jughead (played by Cole Sprouse) and Charles (guest star Wyatt Nash) follow a new lead after the contents of the latest videotape takes a sinister turn.

“Meanwhile, Kevin (Casey Cott), Reggie (Charles Melton) and Fangs (guest star Drew Ray Tanner) take their latest business venture to the next level, while Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Veronica’s (Camila Mendes) maple rum business faces a new threat.

“Finally, Archie (KJ Apa) and Betty (Lili Reinhart) contemplate their next steps.”

A short promo trailer has been released as well showing Archie and Betty lying next to each other on a bed.

Betty says: “Archie, why are we here?” The high school jock simply responds: “I don’t know but it’s nice.”

The pair then hold hands as they stare up at the ceiling, trying to decide where to go from there.

Lynchian follows on from Riverdale’s annual musical extravaganza, which this year took numbers from the ground-breaking Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

During the episode, the seeds were sewn for Archie and Betty’s romance with the duo also breaking up with their respective significant other.

Prior to this, Betty and Archie faked a romance in order to ensnare the Stonewall Prep students who tried to murder Jughead and pin the blame on his girlfriend.

Just how all of this will play out remains to be seen but it works up aptly towards the season four finale.

This run marks the last year for high school in Riverdale and having the Core Four splitting up romantically gives more scope for where the characters could go next.

Each of the central quartet is unique and it would make sense for them to go in different directions as they enter the next chapter in their lives.

Like all other film and TV productions across the world, Riverdale season four has also been affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

Season four had to shut down production and it’s unclear when the show could start filming again.

Some shows such as NCIS and Grey’s Anatomy cut their series short, which may be an option for Riverdale.

The remaining episodes from season four could potentially be part of season five, which got the greenlight back in the new year.
