Royal Mail postal delays are ‘likely’ in the UK – some deliveries ‘may not be possible’

Royal Mail will keep customers updated amid any possible delays. This is the latest update on how services are running.

Royal Mail has experienced a spike in demand over the last year as more people shop online.

This will not often affect customers, and the delivery service will let customers know if delays are likely.

In its latest update, Royal Mail stated it aims to deliver mail six days a week.

However, those who don’t receive their post on time should get it at least every other day.

“We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week,” Royal Mail stated.

“If resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures prevent this, we’ll deliver at least every other day.

“It’s only in extreme cases – where offices are severely affected by absence levels – that this may not be possible.”

Customers should get deliveries at least every other day unless there are serious delays.

This is “likely” to affect people in some parts of the UK, a statement explained.

It continued: “Due to resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures, deliveries in some areas are likely to be disrupted this week.”

It added an apology for anyone affected and stated Covid vaccination letters and tests are a priority.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding,” the post continued.

“We’re working hard to deliver as comprehensive a service as possible with the resources available to support these offices.

“And we’re ensuring we prioritise the delivery of Covid-19 vaccination letters and test kits.”

To help cope with growing demand, Royal Mail changed the conditions of its Special Delivery Guaranteed.

Some items sent via this method may arrive at different times than before.

A statement said: “During the coronavirus pandemic we’ve needed to make temporary changes to the guaranteed times for our Special Delivery Guaranteed by 9am and 1pm services.

“Our guaranteed delivery for Special Delivery Guaranteed by 9am the next working day is by 11am the next working day.

“Our guaranteed delivery for Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm the next working day is by 4pm the next working day.

“This includes items where a Saturday guarantee has been purchased.”
