Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex visited the opening day of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show on Monday. Sophie was all smiles while she represented the Royal Family at the event, appearing “approachable and not at all grand” while out and about.

Body language expert Judi James told Express.co.uk that Sophie displayed a “trio of body language techniques” that demonstrates why she has been dubbed by many as “one of our most popular royals”.

Ms James said: “First she has clearly perfected the royal smile, the kind of pitch-perfect symmetric grin that bares just the right amount of upper teeth and which, like Kate, she appears to be able to hold for very long periods of time without it looking rigid or fake.

“Sophie’s smile involves the right amount of creasing around the eyes and cheeks, while her lips look lacking in the kind of tension that would suggest effort or a lack of genuine happiness.

“Secondly, Sophie appears able to create the kind of held pose that must make the photographer’s lives very easy.

“All of the poses in these shots are suitable for use in the press and one even looks like a professional portrait, with Sophie standing with her head tilted back slightly and her hands demurely folded in front of her torso as she is surrounded by the flowers she is visiting at the Flower Show.”

Ms James also noticed that Sophie carried her own coat during the visit, and made jokes with those around her as she toured the vicinity.

She added: “Thirdly she manages to produce these poses while still looking pretty ‘normal’ in status terms.

“Of all the royals it’s Sophie who best manages to combine a regal elegance with an air of being approachable and not at all grand.

“Here she is carrying her own coat like the rest of us would have to and her facial expression as she looks at the pumpkin includes the kind of silent shared joke that Diana was always very good at producing and which created a sense of rapport with the royal fans.”

According to the MailOnline, Sophie showed her sense of humour when she and Edward were asked by photographers to walk through a garden alone during the event.

After their stroll, the director of the RHS, Sue Biggs, joked: “Well was that romantic enough for you? Did you enjoy it?”

In reference to the present media, Sophie replied: “Oh yes, it’s lovely with no one else around!”
