Strangest places celebrities have given birth after Charlotte Church welcomed daughter under a tree
While most celebrities opt to check into private maternity wings to welcome their children, others have decided on altogether more unusual places to give birth.
Charlotte Church made headlines after confessing to a very natural birth indeed after her daughter was born under a tree in her back garden.
The 35-year old singer welcomed her daughter Freda with her husband Jonathan Powell in August 2020, under a tree with candles and dried flowers.
The singer isn’t the only celebrity who has ended up with a more unusual birth story – while some are admittedly more planned than others.
Here are the most dramatic and unexpected celebrity birth stories.
During the pandemic, in March 2021, Zara Phillips gave birth to her son Lucas at home.
While her two older children were both born in hospital, the Queen’s granddaughter chose to not leave the house this time round after she was worried there wouldn’t be time to get to the hospital.
The baby was born on the bathroom floor on towels put down by Zara’s husband Mike Tindall.
Lucas is thought to be the first royal baby to be born at home for nearly 60 years.
Katie Price gave birth to her daughter Princess on her then reality TV show.
In 2007, Katie was filming Katie & Peter with former husband Peter Andre and the couple invited a film crew into the moments before and after the birth.
The series became their most successful series to date, averaging 1,250,000 viewers per episode.
Princess, now 13, had her first moments in the world captured on camera and broadcast to the nation.
Kourtney, like Katie, also gave birth on film but when bringing both Mason and Penelope into the world, the reality star did all the hard work herself.
The expectant star literally used her own hands to birth her two youngest children.
"She was coming out, and I was thinking, 'I should pull her,'" Kourtney has said, adding: "With Mason, I had no idea I was going to do that. This time, I thought, 'This is what I'm supposed to do.'"
There is a labour and delivery room at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles known as the Spice Girls suite.
It was given the name after Mel B checked in saying that her bandmate Victoria Beckham had also given birth there.
The private wing is similarly star-studded as the Portland hospital here where celebrity mums include Meghan Markle.
In 2014, actress Vivian Gray gave birth in the actual street after being caught short near her due date.
The star, best known her role in US TV drama Desire, was out with her mother, who quickly removed her Burberry coat for her daughter to lay down on.
The baby was born right there on the expensive coat on the aptly named Hollywood Road.
Vivian has said: "It was as if my body was doing all the work and I had no power over this pushing sensation."
The baby Sky was later checked at a local hospital and both were sent home later that day.
In 2011, Mariah insisted that her babies be born to her own personal soundtrack and that her 1995 album Fantasy be playing in the labour ward.
Her husband at the time, Nick Cannon recalled: “It was definitely over the top. I was the manager of the whole production.”
Twins Monroe and Morrocan were reportedly born at the moment of applause.
