Strictly Come Dancing’s Richie Anderson had been plagued by rumours that he “hadn’t clicked” with his dance partner Giovanni Pernice, who won the Glitterball trophy last year along with Rose Ayling-Ellis. However, the 34-year-old quickly refuted the rumour with a gushing Instagram tribute thanking the Italian dance pro for his partnership.

Thank you Gio for being the most amazing teacher over the past fortnight

Sharing a clip from the Strictly launch show with almost 50,000 followers, Richie wrote: “A moment I’ll never forget and so grateful I got to share it with @giovannipernice.”

He praised: “Thank you Gio for being the most amazing teacher over the past fortnight. Last night was a dream come true moment.”

The ballroom star also praised the song choice, exclaiming: “What a banger to cha-cha-cha to, Wham I’m Your Man’.”

“Plenty of feedback from the judges to take on board, can’t wait to get back in the rehearsal studio tomorrow and put it into practice. Thank you Gio and Strictly,” the elated TV star concluded.

His excited Instagram post dismissed any rumours that the pair hadn’t been getting along.

Talk intensified after sources claimed to the Sun that pro dancer Giovanni was becoming increasingly frustrated by his partner’s alleged inability to listen to him.

“Richie is so swept up by the whole experience that he is talking 100 words a minute, and it can be hard for Giovanni,” the source had insisted.

They suggested that Giovanni had told friends of his annoyance that he “talks instead of listening during training”.

However, the more recent post by Richie seems to suggest that the pals, bonded by ballroom dancing, now have an unshakeable friendship.

The pair will also go down in history as the first male same sex couple the show has ever had.

A female pairing has also been introduced for Strictly 2022, with comedian Jayde Adams taking to the stage with Latin pro dancer, Karen Hauer.

Jayde has defended the idea of same sex partnerships on the dance floor, branding it “completely natural” amid complaints from a minority of people.

She also said that she relished the opportunity of being able to use her physical strength and size to do manoeuvres with her partner.

She joked to Pink News: “If I was in a male partnership, show me one of the lads that’s lifting me.

“[However] I’m now going to be able to throw Karen Hauer around that dance floor. She’s going over my head, I don’t care!”

No doubt the judges – Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke – will be delighted to soak up the diversity on this year’s contest, which is increased further by the return of Rose Ayling-Ellis.

Fans welled up with tears when they caught sight of her and Giovanni tenderly reuniting on the launch show to the tune of Alicia Key’s ‘Fallin”.

Followers took to social media afterwards to gasp that their chemistry was “incredible”.

They also earned respect for beginning their performance with a conversation in sign language.

Meanwhile, though Richie has a lot to live up to in order to bond with Giovanni as closely as Rose did, it looks as if the new pair have got off to a great start.
