STV confirms how many 'new' Brookside episodes will stream

If you’re enjoying revisiting Brookside as much as us, then you’re no doubt counting down the hours until the next batch of episodes drop on STV Player!

The classic Channel 4 soap, which was controversially axed two decades ago, has proven a huge hit with audiences since STV picked it up earlier this month, with the show garnering over a million streams in the first week, which saw 10 episodes made available straight away.

The plan was to drop five additional episodes every week, but due to overwhelming demand, STV added an extra 10 in the second week also, which proved a treat with viewers at home.

But just how many episodes can viewers expect this week? If, like some fans, you’ve been dying to know the weekly amount of Brookie outings you’ll get moving forward, then we’ve got the confirmation you needed.

Metro.co.uk can reveal that the original plan of five episodes per week will resume from this Wednesday (February 15).

Episodes 21 to 25 will be made available from tomorrow, and consider us excited to get stuck in and re-discover what’s next for the Grants, the Collins’, the Huntingtons and the Taylors.

65% of Brookside’s streams in the first week came from outside the STV broadcast channel’s central/northern Scotland broadcast region, which reflects STV Player’s move to become a standalone, UK-wide streaming service following its UK rollout in 2020.

The positive reception to Brookie’s online presence, you might argue, is further proof that the beloved serial drama should stage a proper return one day.

‘I think there would be a massive appetite for it,’ actor Dean Sullivan, who played Jimmy Corkhill, exclusively told Metro.co.uk. If it does come back, who knows?’

He continued: ‘But the thing is what’s great about it, because it’s going to be repeated now on STV Player, there’ll be a whole new generation of fans who will get an appetite for it and maybe start demanding that it does come back.

‘Never say never.’

In other words, the nation is hooked on Brookside once again!

Brookside is available to stream on STV Player, with five ‘new’ episodes added every Wednesday.
