Singer Raye, 23, appeared on Sunday Brunch to discuss her latest single, Call On Me. However, the vocalist left hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer slightly frustrated as she made a shocking confession.
What translates to a wasted ticket!
Tooting-born Raye, whose real name is Rachel Keen, revealed that she is heading to Wimbledon next week.
However, the singer later shared a candid revelation about the sport.
Her decision to share the truth left hosts Simon and Tim absolutely speechless.
Discussing her plans for the week ahead, Raye was asked: “You’re off to Wimbledon tomorrow — how exciting! Which court?”
Startled by the question, Raye said: “I don’t know? Centre court, maybe?
“I hope so, Venus [Williams] is playing, so I’m excited to see her.”
“Do you like tennis?” asked Tim.
“I… uh… yeah,” hesitated Raye as she responded to the question.
Laughing about her answer, Simon said: “What that translates to is ‘I really like a day out!’ yes?”
“What translates to a wasted ticket!” joked Tim.
Moments after her revelation, Raye exclaimed: “Oh no, I’ve dropped me right in it here! I should have prepared some lies!”
Raye went on to admit that she enjoyed tennis when she was younger but appears to have grown out of the sport.
Amused by her gaffe, Tim asked: “What are you going for? To see Cliff Richard?” noting that Sir Cliff often attends Wimbledon.
After Harry Potter actress Jessie Cave admitted that she often sits down to watch sports, due to her boyfriend’s love of them.
“That is so nice, right? Something comforting about sport on in the background,” added Tim.
However, Simon instantly seized the opportunity to take another swipe at Raye, saying: “That’s Raye, with Wimbledon going on in the background while she’s drinking champagne!”
Despite the UK being in lockdown for almost a year, Raye has seen her music career take off, collaborating with the likes of David Guetta and Joel Corry.
While she says her time in lockdown was “tricky” and “mentally really hard”, she explained that it’s been “brilliant” for her career.
Opening up to Rollercoaster magazine, the songstress said: “It’s been really tricky, but also really brilliant and positive. Professionally I’ve had some really big songs over lockdown. I’ve had two Top 10 hits, so it’s been really great from that perspective.
“But at the same time, I’ve found it mentally really hard. The first lockdown I didn’t really do much writing for my own project, just lots of promo, finishing off songs and then writing for other artists. “
