Susanna Reid reassures GMB viewers Santa is ‘definitely real’ after mix-up

GMB host Susanna Reid found herself in an awkward situation on Monday's (26 September) episode of the show.

The host was forced to reassure viewers that "Santa is real" after a comment from fellow host Ed Balls.

The pair of broadcaster were discussing Nasa’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (Dart) with meteorologist Laura Tobin, which will be streamed on NASA's YouTube channel next Monday (3 October.)

The test has been designed to see how difficult it would be to stop a sizeable space rock from hitting Earth.

However Ed ended up in an awkward mix-up when he confused Dart with Norad (The North American Aerospace Defense Command) which runs a yearly Santa tracker, where people can follow his journey from the North Pole.

Speaking about the event Ed said: "It’ll be the same website as they use for Father Christmas coming."

To which Laura responded: "It’s not, it’s Nasa’s YouTube Channel."

And Ed said: "‘No but I think Nasa do a thing where you can track Father Christmas coming."

Laura corrected him by saying: "That’s Norad."

Ed then said: "‘I think that’s made up. I don’t know though! Might be real."

Susanna then jumped in by saying: "Okay, Father Christmas, by the way, is definitely real. The asteroid is also real."

Ed added: "But we don’t know where he is. That’s made up."

Susanna urged: "Let’s not upset the children by suggesting he’s on the same web stream as an asteroid that’s about to get knocked out of the sky."

Ed still went on to (incorrectly) insist: "It’s the same website."

Ed is often controversial on the show and in the same episode he said he would be in "total trouble" if he made the same comment as Susanna Reid about an MP's haircut.

Labour MP and Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves appeared on Good Morning Britain today.

Susanna commented on the MP's hair instantly which had been styled differently in a short bob.

She asked Rachel if she had "had a haircut."

Ed Balls later scolded Susanna for the comment and said: "Good job I didn't say that about her hair, I'd be in total trouble."

"Would you?" asked Susanna, before Ed replied: "Absolutely."

Defending her comment, Susanna added: "I just thought when you see a politician in a certain way and notice a big difference [you can comment]."
