The Big Bang Theory has featured countless cameos and guest stars throughout the years, with the character of Mandy Chow making for a more memorable addition. Featuring in the second episode of season nine, she almost got in the way of Leonard’s (played by Johnny Galecki) wedding. But who plays Mandy Chow?

Who played Mandy Chow in The Big Bang Theory?

In the season nine episode The Separation Oscillation, Mandy Chow is first introduced to fans when Leonard is worried about a past mistake with her.

Mandy is played by Melissa Tang during the episode, an actress who could recently be seen in the show The Kominsky Method as Margaret.

The star has also appeared in Hawaii Five-0, Magnum P.I., Mom, The Goodwin Games, and A Good Day to Die Hard – the fifth Die Hard film.

However, Big Bang Theory fans might also recognise her from Young Sheldon, where she plays a different role – Ms Fenley.

The two characters are completely unrelated in the original show and the prequel series.

It is not uncommon for shows to use the same actor for multiple roles, especially when they introduce spin-off series such as Young Sheldon.

Tang would reprise her role of Ms Fenley in 2019 during the episode Albert Einstein and the Story of Another Mary, which is the star’s last appearance in the franchise.

As Mandy Chow in The Big Bang Theory, her character played an important role on Leonard’s wedding day.

During the first episode of season nine, The Matrimonial Moment, Leonard drunkenly confesses to his fiancée Penny (Kaley Cuoco) that he kissed another girl while they were together.

It is a shocking revelation that threatens to destroy their relationship, however, Leonard decides Penny should meet the girl he kissed so she can find out the truth behind it.

The girl is Mandy Chow, who to the surprise of Leonard, can hardly remember the kiss.

The moment makes Leonard overanalyse the situation and consider himself not worthy to marry Penny.

Mandy Chow hardly knew what was going on, as it transpired she had a habit of sleeping around with people from the office.

From that point, the character never appears in the show again, but her impact on Leonard and Penny’s relationship is felt long after the one episode.

Tang’s next project is a TV movie titled Casting Call which will explore the behind-the-scenes of the world of commercial casting.

Ironically, Tang is playing the role of Penny, and the new project is expected to drop in 2021.

The star has been sharing updates on her series The Kominsky Method, which recently finished with the third season.

Tang starred alongside Michael Douglas, Alan Arkin, and Paul Reiser in the show, as well as Morgan Freeman, and she shared a picture of the two on Instagram.

The actress shared a series of snaps of the two behind the scenes of the series, with the caption: “BTS photos by EVERYONE on set that day that was secretly taking photos to remember this too good to be a true day at work.  #thekominskymethod #netflix!”

Fans rushed to the comments to share their support and excitement for Tang, with one comment reading: “Melissa and Morgan Freeman. Unbelievable! Amazing!”

Another added: “This was so cool to watch! You were great as Margaret, I really loved her.”

The Big Bang Theory is available to watch on CBS and HBO Max.
