'The Morning Show' Season 2 Trailer Announces Addition of This 'Arrested Development' Actor
The Morning Show Season 2 trailer dropped recently ramping up curiosity for the season premiere on Sep. 17. Ever since the end of the first season, the second one was in the works. But with production delays due to the pandemic, the show’s release got pushed. What that did was give the fans more time to speculate and Apple more time to slowly dish out details about the season. But the trailer took everyone by surprise by revealing a surprise addition of an actor that was previously unknown, TVLine reported.
Will Arnett is joining the cast of ‘The Morning Show’ in Season 2
In the first few clips in the trailer, we get a glimpse of Will Arnett walking and standing beside Jennifer Aniston and we try to figure out if what we’re seeing is true. In another scene, as they have a conversation about her character, Alex, deciding to leave The Morning Show, we realize that it is true. That is Will Arnett.
The Arrested Development alum will join the show as Doug Klassen, who is Alex’s agent. So far Apple had never mentioned another actor — apart from the actors already announced — joining the show. There were no reports or releases that even hinted at his arrival. This can also be a sign that his role might be pivotal enough to be a major reveal in the trailer.
But as much as Arnett’s appearance surprised everyone, the trailer also had many more moments that gave a glimpse of how the season might play out.
What else did the trailer reveal?
The trailer gave a deeper look into what the newsroom of the fictional morning show looks like in the aftermath of Alex, and Bradley, played by Reese Witherspoon’s, public showdown on the toxic workplace environment at UBA, the broadcasting network of The Morning Show.
While Alex leaves the show and now is being convinced to come back to UBA, Bradley is navigating the consequences of their off-script adventure. Meanwhile, Steve Carell’s Mitch Kessler is coming to terms with his sexual misconduct scandal and his consequent firing. Billy Crudup’s Cory Ellison, a UBA executive, is also dealing with the changing dynamics at the network after the dramatic end of the last season.
Continuing its tradition of creating storylines based on the realities of the present, like the #MeToo movement in season one, the show also tackles the pandemic and racial discrimination this season.
Apple had already announced the return of many season one regulars like Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Bel Powley, Desean Terry, Janina Gavankar, Tom Irwin, and Marcia Gay Harden for the second season. But that is not all.
Who else is joining the cast in Season 2?
The Good Wife actor Julianna Margulies will join the cast as Laura Peterson, a star reporter at UBA, who is also a mentor to Bradley. It becomes pretty clear from the trailer that Alex does not trust her. Hasan Minhaj is also joining the cast as upcoming talent at UBA, Eric Nomani, who replaces Alex as co-anchor of The Morning Show.
Russian Doll actor Greta Lee will play the role of Stella Bak, the boss at an online media company and Ruairi O’ Connor will play Ty Fitzgerald, a popular YouTuber. Apart from these Holland Taylor, Tara Karshian, and Italian actor Valeria Golino will also have recurring roles this season.
With the old characters and new, the trailer hints at a dramatic season. We’ll soon find out. The second season premiere’s on Apple TV+ on Sep. 17.
