The Walking Dead has been airing on Fox and AMC, but fans have come to learn it has since found a new home. They are waiting for the highly-anticipated season 11 to air in August 2021. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about where to find the new season.

Why is The Walking Dead leaving Fox?

The Walking Dead fans were sad to hear the series would be coming to an end after the 11th season, which is due to air later this year.

Previously, the zombie series has been made available to watch on AMC, with fans in the UK able to tune in on Fox.

On May 20, 2021 Disney+ announced all 10 seasons would be made available on its new Star service from July 2.

A total of 153 episodes will be added to the service, meaning fans can rewatch the whole series ahead of the season 11 release.

The 11th season will also air on the Disney Plus platform.

Following Disney’s acquisition of FOX, the channel announced it would close after 17 years in the UK.

A spokesperson said in a statement: “On June 30 the FOX channel in the UK will close. Many titles will become available on Star on Disney+ and will be announced in the near future.”

The series is a TV adaptation of the Robert Kirkman comic books and it continues to be a huge success.

The show has generated a number of spin-offs, including Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

A number of Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) movies are also in the making, as well as a Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) spin-off.

Season 11 will premiere on August 23 on Star on Disney+, the day after the AMC release.

This is just one of the many series finding a new home on the streaming platform, with sci-fi drama War of the Worlds landing on May 28.

Disney Plus already contains a range of Fox content including the award-winning series Atlanta.

The official Twitter account for Disney Plus shared the news, saying: “EVERY. EPISODE. EVER.  Clear your schedule, Rick, Michonne, Carol and Daryl have found a new home.

“All 10 seasons of the global phenomenon #TheWalkingDead streaming July 2 on Star on Disney+. Final season drops this August!”

Fans have shared their thoughts, with one joking: “With the walking dead moving to Disney plus for the last series does that make carol the first Disney princess of the apocalypse.”

Another said: “YESSS never seen the show but happy to see it coming.”

A third added: “Wait What!!! The Walking Dead is part of the Disney World Now OMG!!!”

With only a few months left to go until the final season, fans are reminiscing over their favourite moments.

They were blessed with some extra episodes at the end of season 10, which delved deeper into the histories of the characters.

Season 10 featured a highly-anticipated ‘Here’s Negan’ episode, which went down a huge hit.

Viewers are excited to see what obstacles are introduced to keep the survivors on their toes in the upcoming season.

Fans in the US should know the series will still be airing on AMC, and only fans in the UK will be impacted by the change.

The news has been met with mixed reaction, with some viewers feeling upset about the change.

TWD Universe chief content officer, Scott Gimple, gave some insight into what fans can expect from the new season.

He told Twitch: “The first episode is crazy. I cannot wait for people to see it.

“It’s big. It’s very, very big. I don’t want to say too much, but it’s stuff we have never seen on the show. When Angela, the writer, started talking about it, I immediately got excited.”

The Walking Dead season 11 will air on AMC on August 22 and Disney Plus on August 23.
