The Walking Dead fans will know Stephanie is the mysterious woman Eugene (played by Josh McDermitt) was talking to over the radio in season 10. After a lot of speculation, she made her first physical appearance during the latest episode of the final season of the AMC show, played by Chelle Ramos. Yet, it didn’t take long for viewers to question if it is really Stephanie, mainly due to one piece of major information.

Is the real Stephanie dead?

The Walking Dead season 11 looks to be making good on its promise to answer some of the series most burning questions.

Fans love the show, not only for its zombie-killing action and iconic characters, but for the various mysteries that have lasted over the decade since its premiere.

One of the more recent mysteries surrounds Eugene’s radio romance Stephanie, with the characters regularly communicating.

Stephanie was never seen until she appeared in the latest episode of season 11, but almost immediately fans noticed something off about the character.

Fans are already reacting to the double-bluff reveal, with many of them taking to Twitter to discuss the imposter Stephanie.

One fan wrote: “You know, I had hope that nothing would go wrong when Eugene tried to meet Stephanie… but this is The Walking Dead.”

Another added: “OMG they finally showed Stephanie! …nevermind, it isn’t her.”

A third commented: “I’m just saying, that is definitely NOT Stephanie.”

The main reason for the doubt around Stephanie is that star Chelle Ramos is not who was previously cast in the role back in 2020.

In July 2020, Deadline reported that Margot Bingham was set to star in season 11 as Stephanie, putting a face to the voice for the very first time.

Ramos’ Stephanie has only confused fans about who this imposter really is and why she is claiming to be Eugene’s long-distant friendship.

Fans are convinced Eugene is being lied to and this Stephanie is just assuming the real Stephanie’s identity for some TWD style nefarious reasons, most likely meaning the real Stephanie is either dead or captured.

She is most likely a Commonwealth spy, as the looming nation is casting a large shadow over the final season.

The Commonwealth is already proving to be a major foil for the survivors this season, as the militia’s leader Mercer (Michael James Shaw) has already got in their way more than once.

If this Stephanie is a spy, it could mean Eugene is in some serious trouble as he just lied to Mercer about Alexandria.

Refusing to mention anything about the community, Mercer seemed doubtful, despite Eugene’s expert lying skills.

But the Stephanie reveal could add new context to Mercer’s line, “if you lie, I’ll know,” possibly referring to the Stephanie imposter.

The next episode could show Mercer receiving the report form the imposter that Eugene lied, leading him directly to Alexandria.

This would undoubtedly lead to some devastating results, as the Commonwealth is keen to crack down on any form of civilisation that isn’t their own.

The full weight of the Commonwealth will come crashing down on the survivors if Eugene is caught, leading to some devastating consequences for all involved.

The Walking Dead season 11 airs Sundays in the USA on AMC and the following day on Star via Disney+ in the UK.
