Things are so bad between my girlfriend and my daughter I may call it a day
DEAR DEIDRE: THINGS are getting so bad between my girlfriend and my daughter that I might need to call it a day with my relationship.
I’m 29 and my girlfriend is 27. My daughter, who’s from a previous relationship, is 11. They just don’t gel.

Each time I have my daughter over to stay, my girlfriend gets moody and hides in the bedroom. She makes snide comments about how my daughter was conceived.
I was a teenager and her mum was under age but I was a different person then. I love my daughter and wouldn’t change a thing.
I used to share a good sex life with my girlfriend but all the intimacy has disappeared. We’ve not had sex for six months. She says she doesn’t enjoy it any more.
We have talked about marriage and babies but that feels hopeless now.
DEIDRE SAYS: Try to help your girlfriend build a relationship of her own with your daughter so she realises she is a child, not a rival.
Suggest she spend an afternoon with your daughter, be it baking, watching a film or biking. But be firm that your little girl stays in your life no matter how many moods your girlfriend throws. My support pack on Stepfamily Problems explains.
