Timothée Chalamet Shouts Out His Statistics Teacher in Graduate Together and Twitter Is Losing It

Long before Timothée Chalamet made his Oscar-nominated performance in Call Me By Your Name, his fawned-over role as Kyle in Lady Bird, or his whimsical take on Teddy in Little Women, the actor was romping around the grounds of New York’s LaGuardia High School rapping Nicki Minaj and some of his own verses. Regarding the latter, we’re speaking specifically of “Statistics,” his now-Internet famous tribute to his teacher Miss Lawton.

Not familiar? Please, indulge yourself below. The viral video, dug up by die-hard fans in recent years, shows a tiny Timmy in a gray V-neck tee and hot pink snapback cap as he spits rhymes about statistics and his beloved teacher. It’s rich.

You can only imagine the Internet’s delight, then, when Chalamet slipped in a reference to Ms. Lawton during his appearance in the Graduate Together broadcast. “Thank you for your valiant efforts to teach me the art of statistics,” he said, sending fans into peak excitement.

He also honored the graduates from his own alma mater, as well as high school seniors around the country, whose commencement ceremonies were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. “I can’t imagine what the last couple months has been like for students, let alone for high school seniors, not being able to attend your graduation ceremonies,” he said.

The surprise shout-out brought out a range of responses, some skeptically theorizing that Chalamet might’ve been pressured into referencing his viral clip, and others pointing out that he appeared to sneak in parts of the famous choreography. Read some of the best reactions below.

Honestly, thank you Ms. Lawton, and all the teachers out there.
