Welcome to Plathville Season 2 release date, cast, and storyline
For a while there, it seemed like Welcome to Plathville might be a one-season wonder. The Plaths, the ultra-conservative Christian family at the heart of the TLC reality show, faced intense criticism and ridicule for the strict rules they impose on their gaggle of kids. Among many other things, the Plath children aren’t allowed to watch TV or movies, go on social media, or imbibe soft drinks and other sugary junk foods.
Most of the drama, if you could even call it that, in season one came from Plath parents Kim and Barry’s interactions with eldest son Ethan and his new wife Olivia who, although also Christian, has a more relaxed approach to life and was subsequently accused of leading the younger kids astray. As a result, it seemed like maybe Welcome to Plathville was one and done because the family had been so irreparably damaged by the show.
The Plaths are all coming back for round two
Fear not, as People confirms that season 2 drops on TLC on November 10. Last time around, viewers got to know all 11 members of the Plath family — Ethan, Micah, Moriah, Lydia, Isaac, Amber, Cassia, Mercy, their parents, and Olivia — as they carved out a life for themselves on their idyllic, 55-acre Georgia farm, without most modern conveniences. Happily, nobody has jumped ship between seasons and everybody is slated to return for another go.
However, this time around, the household has been separated into three parts; Barry and Kim are living with their youngest kids in their brand-new, dream home, which is worlds away from their farm but still without technology or Internet access, teens Micah and Moriah are off on their own trying to carve out some kind of independence, and Ethan and Olivia are, unsurprisingly, living away from everybody else and doing their own thing.
The Plath family is splintered in the second season
Rumors and spoilers about the second season abound but suffice to say the Plath parents continue to clash with Ethan and Olivia, who are now no longer allowed to be around the younger kids without supervision. As People advises, the drama with Ethan’s parents puts such a strain on their marriage that the couple begins to contemplate divorce, leading the young man to stop talking to Kim and Barry. However, it’s not all bad, as Ethan and Olivia also venture to California, get tattoos, and rediscover their spiritual sides in the desert.
According to TV Series Finale, TLC advised in a press release that Micah and Moriah also argue with their parents as they try to encourage them to loosen the reins on the younger children. As In Touch Weekly notes, Olivia previously revealed on social media that it was Kim and Barry who pitched Welcome to Plathville, but TLC allegedly wouldn’t agree to the show without her and Ethan’s involvement. Whatever happened between now and then, the Plaths appear to be back and better than ever.
