MCMAFIA is sure to be everyone's new favourite crime drama, and is a real highlight of early 2018 TV.

Here's everything you need to know about the new thriller and is starring in it and what it is about…

Who's in the McMafia cast?

James Norton – Alex Godman

London-born James has become a regular face on some of the UKs favourite TV dramas.

This includes playing the Reverend Sidney Chambers in Grantchester and Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley.

He also appeared as Ryan in the Charlie Brooker anthology series, Black Mirror, and took on the role of Andrei Bolkonsky in an adaptation of War and Peace.

David Strathairn – Semiyon Kleiman

American actor David has been working as an actor in the industry for the past thirty years.

Mainly working in independent cinema, David has made several small appearances in blockbuster films including Lincoln and The Bourne Legacy.

Most recently, he has started in TV series The Blacklist.

Juliet Rylance – Rebecca

Juliet is an English actress known for a string of highly acclaimed film roles.

This includes horror flick Sinister, Frances Ha and Days and Nights.

Most recently, she has featured in TV series American Gothic, leading the cast in the mystery drama.

Faye Marsay – Katya Godman

Faye Marsay will be known to most as The Waif in the epic fantasy series, Game of Thrones.

She also appeared as Candice in Channel 4 show Fresh Meat alongside Jack Whitehall and Zawe Ashton.

Most recently, she has taken part in ITV detective drama Bancroft, and appeared as rookie cop Blue Colson in Black Mirror's Hated in the Nation.

Aleksey Serebryakov – Dimitri Godman

Russian-born Aleksey has established himself as one of the leading actors for the country.

He has a string of titles under his belt in Russian cinema, and is currently in production for four more films.


Mariya Shukshina – Oksana Godman

In her career, Mariya has been recognised by several film boards for her work in the industry.

She won a Nika award in 2010 for Best Supporting Actress in Pokhoronite menya za plintusom.

Pokhoronite menya za plintusom, translated into English as Bury Me Behind the Dashboard, was a drama that followed a child trapped between a mother and emotionally abusive grandmother.

Oshri Cohen – Joseph

Born in Israel, Oshri has worked in cinema covering several different languages.

This includes starring opposite Rachel Weisz in Roman Egypt adventure piece, Adora.

He has also appeared in a number of Israeli cinematic releases including Lost Islands, and Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi.

What is McMafia about?

McMafia follows the story of Alex Godman, an English-raised son of Russian exiles with a mafia history.

After trying to trying to escape his criminal past, he comes to realise his family ties aren't so easily cut.

Trying to build his own business and life a normal life with his wife, Rebecca, his past comes back all guns blazing – and he is loyalties and values are tested as a result.

The film is based on the book on the real-life 'McMafia' written by Misha Glenny.

When is McMafia on?

After launching on BBC One on January 1 and 2, McMafia will run for eight episodes, with each new episode becoming available on iPlayer shortly after its initial airtime.

In the US, it will screen on cable channel, AMC, which is known for its cult dramas including The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul.

Amazon Prime will be bringing the series to a further 200 countries and channels.
