Will Mellor joins Coronation Street as drug lord in dark Simon Barlow plot
Coronation Street will be welcoming Two Pint of Lager and A Packet of Crisps star Will Mellor onto the cobbles later this year in a dark storyline with Leanne and Simon.
The hunk has been cast as "menacing" Harvey on the ITV soap and bosses have revealed he will cause misery for fan favourite Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).
Viewers have recently seen Simon get pulled into the dark world of drugs as he has started delivering packages for Jacob to try and earn some money.
And things will get even worse for Simon as Leanne tries to save her son from the drugs gang he has got involved in.
Will Mellor's character Harvey will be Jacob's boss and will start to threaten Simon as he tries to get out of the dangerous drugs world he has become tangled in.
In his first interview about joining, Will said: "I’m honoured to be asked to come into Coronation Street, it’s such an iconic show and has been a huge part of my family life.
"When I started acting 32 years ago it was my mum’s dream for me to be in Corrie so I’m happy to finally be able to make it come true.
"It’s a Manchester institution and as a Manchester actor this is definitely a box ticked.
"Harvey is the first out and out baddie I’ve ever played. It’s a very different type of role for me so I’m looking forward to getting my teeth into the character and making some waves."
Will’s Corrie stint comes almost 30 years after he shot to fame on rival soap Hollyoaks.
Producer Iain MacLeod added: "I am so excited to welcome Will into our world. He is a fantastic actor who has thrown himself heart and soul into making his character as terrifyingly real as possible.
"He will have a massive impact on our characters’ lives, from the moment he swaggers menacingly onto the screen."
Corrie continues on Wednesday at 7.30pm on ITV.
