YouTuber James Charles admits flirting with underage boys he believed were 18

YouTuber James Charles has admitted to flirting with two 16-year-old boys, in his latest YouTube video.

He said that he was taking “full responsibility” for his actions after being accused of messaging two 16-year-old boys after one of the alleged victims posted videos to social media.

The star has recently denied an allegation of 'grooming' a 16-year-old teen following accusations that appeared on social media.

James posted a YouTube video, called "holding myself accountable", on Thursday to his 25.7 million subscribers, admitting to engaging in conversations with the boys and apologising to them and his fans.

The 21-year-old said: “First and foremost I need to say sorry. I owe a massive apology to anybody that I’ve hurt or anybody that I’ve made uncomfortable with my actions.”

He said he was “ashamed and embarrassed" by what happened and explained he had added both boys on Snapchat and asked their ages, believed them when they said they were 18 and then engaged in flirty conversation before discovering the truth and blocking both of them.

James acknowledged his mistake saying: "I needed to take accountability for my actions and more importantly apologise to the people that were affected by them.”

“These conversations should've never happened… and I take full responsibility for that. I trusted the information that was given to me rather than the information I could have and should have gotten myself.”

He added: “As an adult, it is my job and my responsibility to verify who I am talking to and therefore there is no one to blame for this except for myself.”

He apologised to the victims and vowed to his fans that he would no longer be using his ForYou and explore pages as dating sites.

He added he would now ask for ”proper identification for everyone who has reached out and that I am speaking to, and will continue to do that for the rest of time."

James also announced he would be taking a break from social media to get "better educated".

He added: “I now understand the root of the problem and I, and only I have caused myself to get into this situation.

"I understand that there is a could have and should have that could have easily been avoided and that I need to be aware of my platform at all times."

The star continued: "I didn't understand how a situation like this could have happened to people involved but now I do. Now, to the victims, I am so, so sorry and I promise that something like this will never happen again.”

He finished by saying that he was sorry to his friends, family and fans” for not being a "better person and better role model.”
